WOW, what a TERRIBLE DEAL.

From a basketball standpoint, yes. From a financial standpoint, no.

saving $1.4 mil still doesn't make this trade any smarter... it's not like they were over the luxury tax or anything... plus, wasn't Q-Rich likely going to be their starting SG??? Now they get Blount who is soft, takes bad shots, and doesn't like to work when they just signed Ryan Hollins to back-up Big Al???? dumb... Minnesota fans have to be banging their heads into a wall

I'm not, actually. Kahn will either save 1.4 million dollars by buying out Blount's contract or use it for another trade. And no, Q-Rich was going to be backing up Wayne Ellington. I admit that I kind of liked what Quentin Richardson brought to the table for this season but there's no doubt that he was not in the plans for beyond this year. I can guaruntee that even if Blount makes the opening day roster he will not take any minutes away from Hollins.

I'm supporting the moves Kahn is making because I think they will pay off in the long run. That said, it's starting to look like this year's team could be one of the worst NBA teams ever.

Peter Christian's take on the trade... let's see if this gets the same criticism as his Rambis hiring article...

First off, thank you for posting more than just a link this time. And nope, I definitely agree with his basketball analysis on this one. There's no doubt that Mark Blount is an awful player and Quentin Richardson probably could've contributed something to the team this year. However, I don't really care because this team isn't going anywhere this season anyway. This season is going to be BRUTAL. Who knows, maybe we'll get a better lottery position with Blount on our team instead of Richardson...

David Kay, I'm curious to know why you think saving 1.4 million dollars doesn't make this move smarter for the Wolves. The NBA is struggling financially and teams like the Wolves aren't exactly flushed with cash...especially since they aren't going to sell a whole lot of tickets this season. Under these circumstances, why do you think saving $1,400,000 doesn't redeem the trade somewhat for the Wolves?

Rule #1 of the NBA: NEVER COUNT ON THE LOTTERY TO MAKE YOUR TEAM BETTER!!!! EVER!

My biggest problem with this trade is the pay attention to what I say, not to what I do aspect of it. Earlier this week Kahn said he wanted to run the floor which is why Rambis was brought in... then he trades the one veteran who has played in an NBA uptempo offense granted he isn't an all-star but it is 100x better than using Corey Brewer at the 2 offensively.

Simonds, I feel like you are putting way too much blind faith in Kahn. Which is a mistake.

I was kind of trying to put a silver lining on a dark cloud with that statement, I wasn't really being serious. As a Wolves fan I've definitely learned not to put any faith in the lottery. Trust me.

I'm definitely giving Kahn the benefit of the doubt for now, but that's different than putting blind faith into him. No, what I'm doing is waiting to see what the roster looks like when the season starts, rather than judging Kahn based on every individual move looks like. Let's see what the team looks like in a few months before we start calling Kahn an idiot yet.

I agree with you that, on paper, the trade is a bad basketball move. However, I don't think that either Richardson or Blount was going to see much playing time anyway. Blount is still an expiring contract, and no matter how bad of a player he is we can still parlay his contract into solid young players or else hold onto it ourselves and reap the salary cap benefits. I don't like it anymore than you do, but that's just the nature of the NBA these days, what with the rules surrounding the salary cap. Besides, do you really think that Kahn is going to start the season out with only a single 2-guard on his entire team? Again, I'm waiting until I see the sum of the parts before I start to criticize Kahn. I'm pretty sure Kahn is far from done with making moves.
