Open source software such as PHPBB3 and SMF are so much better than communist vBulletin. It also helps the open source movement. It shouldn't be too hard to switch software (I think SMF has support for switching threads over to a new software)

Just my suggestion, I don't like vBulletin. Also an upside to open source, THEY ARE FREE!

I think FOSS is definitely great in general, but in my opinion, vBulletin blows away all of the FOSS CMSes and Forum software I've ever tried.

People are also just more used to vBulletin, which helps them feel more comfortable and more likely to post on the forums.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I do not think it would be best for WF, but that's Walt's call to make.

Open Source Software is over-rated. The best software made is closed source.

While supporting it is always an acceptable action, most of your industry leading technology in software comes from closed source software.
