Was on the phone trying to resolve the problem with my site to watch the first three quarters.
Anyone with any insight on this game?
Looks like neither defense has had much luck.

Nate Longshore just isn't an elite QB. Inconsistent, doesn't nothing great. Has some good throws and has some bad ones. Most of the passing game is generated after the catch.
Erik Ainge impressed me, efficient and didn't make mistakes. But is that enough to get him in early round 2?
Hefney's injury isn't good for him or UT. Hope he gets healthy.
Impressed with the play of Xavier Mitchell. Very athletic DT for UT that can get to the QB. Has a lot of upside, I'm gonna keep my eye on him.
DeSean Jackson showing why he is the most versatile WR in college football. His attitude seems really ****y, maybe this will turn off some head coaches, but who knows.
That move he made on his PR for a TD was so sick. Very athletic player. Most impressive play though was when he came back for a ball on a button route and got hammered by the CB but held onto the ball. That is the kind of plays that a #1 WR needs to make in the NFL.

Tennessee is coming back, I am rooting for them, gotta have that SEC pride.

Auburn just went up on Kansas State. SEC backing up all their preseason hype if they can pull these two games out.
Big Ten has nothing to boast about with UM's loss. What a joke, still lol donkaments.
I heard that the call in shows were going absolutely crazy in Michigan. People are just going nuts and calling for Carr's head...as they should.

I've never really been impressed with Longshore either.
Ainge is playing great considering his pinky. He may have cemented his status as a late-first, early-second-round pick.
What happened to Hefney?
Wish I saw the PR for the TD. I was on the phone for 2 hours trying to resolve the server issue.

I'd like to hear some of those anti-Carr calls.

Cal's defense stepping up.
Demonte Bolden made a nice play on the last series. Has he played well all game?

Cal scores. Great run by Forsett, nice change of direction on the carry.

I disagree about Ainge, Walter. He is a good QB prospect, but he isn't better than Woodson or Brohm. Better than Chad Henne? Maybe. But it is still early and post season workouts can change a lot.
Ainge is certainly impressive against an underrated Cal defense.
If anyone impressed me the most in this game, it has to be Justin Forsett, he has that burst you love in a RB. Could be a round 2 prospect imo with his athleticism.

Forsett really looks great

I never said Ainge is better than Woodson or Brohm. I just said he cemented himself in the top 2 rounds.
But yeah, Forsett has really improved his stock in this game. They just said he put on 10 pounds of muscle. He has speed and power, and he's breaking tackles.

True, you never said Ainge was better than Brohm or Woodson. I think my point was though that I just don't see Ainge getting into round 1 at teh moment. It will depend on a lot of things, but playoff teams usually have their quarterback. A team might trade up to get Ainge in round 1. It will be a long season, lets enjoy it.
You make a great point about Forsett breaking tackles. Biggest difference between the past and tonight's game. If he keeps improving he could really make some noise on draft day.

Ewww. That Xavier Mitchell injury looks really really bad. I hate injuries, but we are human. Poor kid, I hope he can get better.

WTF is going on...unable to move his limbs holy ****.
Matt McGuire

I wonder what happened. Looked like a shoulder separation more than anything on the play. My heart really goes out to that kid and his family. Can't even imagine what they are going through.

I could see late first round for Ainge, depending on how he plays the rest of the season. But you're right, it is a long year.

This is horrible, I hope this is only temporary.

Ainge's lack of mobility on a few plays ago imo is the reason he won't go round 1. You simply have to make plays in the NFL with your legs at times. I don't think Ainge can. He has trouble throwing on the run as well.
Reminds me of Chris Simms, who imo isn't as bad as people make him out to be. Tampa simply isn't the right place for him, and he is a bad fit in Gruden's offense. Sorry for getting OT.

Forsett loves to hit that hole hard. I would like to see him put on more weight, but most RBs do in the NFL so that isn't a huge issue in my mind.

LOL at Alex Mack going crazy. OL just don't look right when they celebrate like Chad Johnson getting a TD on DeAngelo Hall.

45 points on that Tennessee defense...Fulmer has a lot to fix in Knoxville.

Just basic revenge, I guess. Tennessee did the same thing to Cal last year.

Wow Walter, I was actually gonna write one up tonight since I saw you had that feature going on.

Might be revenge, but Tennessee really came out with a bang last year. This was more expected of Cal and what we expected last season. Still impressive win for Cal and the Pac 10.
But on the P10 vs. SEC, Cal arguably the 2nd best team in the P10. Tennessee is arguably the 7th best team in the SEC. Big difference.
Walter
09-01-2007, 11:07 PM
Oh yeah, there's no doubt the SEC is the better conference.
But do you think the Pac-10 is the 2nd best? If not, then what?
Matt McGuire
09-01-2007, 11:15 PM
When you say "better conference" imo that means best overall conference.
I'd have to say it is even right now between the Big 11 and Pac 10. I know that isn't a "sexy" answer, but is true. Both conferences are pretty deep, but they aren't nearly as deep as the SEC talent wise.
I would make a case for the ACC, but with VT's performance I can't. They are simply overrated and don't look like a top 20 team. Vanderbilt could beat Virginia Tech right now. Heck, I'd say MSU might have a good shot at beating VT with that defense.
Walter
09-01-2007, 11:32 PM
I definitely wouldn't say the ACC. Miami is garbage now, Florida State is eh... Wake Forest? Are you kidding me?
I'll take the Pac-10 over the Big 10. I'll take USC over Michigan (obviously), Cal over Wisconsin... UCLA and Ohio State might be even. It's close though.
Matt McGuire
09-01-2007, 11:34 PM
Florida State is very underrated imo. Miami has a top 5 defense.
Cal couldn't beat Wisconsin. Ohio State would destroy UCLA imo. Penn State would beat Oregon, though that is a close one.
Matt McGuire
09-01-2007, 11:35 PM
Although you make a good point Walter, ACC isn't close you're right.
Walter
09-01-2007, 11:35 PM
I think Ohio State is very overrated this year. I think Penn State slaughters them this season.
Matt McGuire
09-01-2007, 11:36 PM
Oh ya, we forgot P10 has USC. That has to count for something lol
Walter
09-01-2007, 11:37 PM
LOL true, neither Michigan nor Ohio State is close to them.

Agreed about Ohio State, they were overrated last year. They should have a good running game, I am taking PSU over OSU as well.
So many great games this year in college football. Wow this is gonna be a fun season to watch.

Not even close you are right. But Wisconsin and Penn State are the 2 best teams in the Big 11. No longer OSU and UM.
Walter
09-01-2007, 11:44 PM
At least not this year. That generally fluctuates, but USC always stays on top of the Pac-10.
