I want to see what the opinion is here. I know there could be some bias (on both sides), but it is an interesting debate always.

I believe for the most part they should concentrate on winning games as that is what coaches are hired to do. This should not the singular goal however and I believe coaches owe a duty of care to t heir players who often put their body on the line for their coach, this should be repaid in some consideration for the players prospect ranking. eg, giving QBs more opportunities to throw when the usual approach would be to encourage them to run.
So basically I'm somewhere in the middle but I think winning is more important.
Also something to consider is that if a program turns out a lot of NFL players it will attract higher ranked recruits and will increase its talent base leading to more wins so nothing should be considered in isolation here.

I mean, there are programs that run offenses that are nothing like what will translate to the Pros and they still get pro-caliber talent. Or worse yet, you could be Ryan Mallett who went to Michigan when they transitioned from a very solid Pro-style system to Rich Rod's scramble system and yet he gets penalized for a year because he wanted to transfer.

both. The main focus is to win enough games to try to make a BCS game, but along the way you should also try to prepare them as much as you can

The first and foremost goal of every college should be to win. Non pro-style offenses were originated by teams that can't get 6'6'' drop back high school quarterback (about 20 schools can pull in legit HS QBs) and 300+ lb offensive linemen. Top tier teams then started picking up spread offenses because they work a lot better when you put elite athletes into it.
Some coaches concentrate on developing players for the NFL more than others. Developing talent is essential to winning and sending players to the NFL, so good coaching is going to help with both.

Notre Dame should focus on winning. Every other school should prepare for the NFL. :p

lets explain better.
Im going to graduate high school, would like to do either of these sports, if these sports are available at a college can I participate in them even if I have never practiced the sport. The colleges on which im planning to attend do not specify anything and apparently they are not intramural. My high school does not offer these sports and neither does my town.
