Things are finally looking up for the Rams. Steve Spagnuolo is moving the team in the right direction and Stan Kroenke has finally been confirmed as the new owner, which should mean renewed stability.
The Rams have got some solid building blocks for the future: QB Sam Bradford, LT Rodger Saffold, DE Chris Long and LB James Laurinaitis are all playing at a high level and still young enough to improve even more. Add other promising youngsters such as our CB duo of Bradley Fletcher and Jerome Murphy, TEs Michael Hoomanawanui and Fendi Onobun and slot receiver Danny Amendola to the mix and things are looking fairly bright; indeed, after years of lousy drafts, the only "big name" draft player of the Devaney-Spagnuolo era who hasn't really impressed is Jason Smith, who was drafted as a franchise left tackle but is now manning the right. Still, he's been plagued by concussions and is still young enough to improve.
We've got one of the best RBs in the game, in the form of Steven Jackson, a top C in Jason Brown, a very good K in Josh Brown and Donnie Jones is one of the best punters in the NFL. Ron Bartell is a good CB, while O.J. Atogwe is an excellent safety, although he may not be with the Rams in 2011. A special mention goes to Chris Massey, who gets no praise as a lowly long snapper but is one of the most reliable at his position in the league.
What we really need, as everyone knows, is a true number one wide receiver. I only hope that A.J. Green is still available when we pick next April. Clearly, we also have many other holes to fill and Green alone won't turn us into Super Bowl champions but there's a lot of young potential in this team and the next few years could be very exciting for us long-suffering Rams fans.
