Walter

...Fired after last week's game? Seems they're a bit slow with things up in Ann Arbour.
Carr needs to be fired TONIGHT.

Lloyd Carr needs to finish the season for UM. Firing Carr brings more confusion and negativity to this team than keeping him.
They are in no rush to fire him. The season is cooked. Just take your losses and start over next year.
Walter

Exactly. Their season is cooked. Why have these seniors suffer with a lame-duck coach?
Matt McGuire

Because Walter, if UM wants a new coach, it won't be an attractive job if they fire Carr mid-season.
Coaches want security and a move such as you are suggesting is the opposite of that.
You can fire Carr right after the last game of the season and let him coach the bowl game if UM makes it that far.
I mean, as bad as Carr has been for this team, its not like Chad Henne is looking like a first or second round draft pick. He is playing horrible. As far as I'm concerned, he is just a big a reason for this team's demise as is the defense and Carr's leadership. Speaking of leadership, Henne just hasn't been there.

Also Walter,
What how does firing Carr makes this a better football team? It makes them even worse and it bring so much CHAOS to that locker room.
It won't happen as much as the fans would like it to happen. I don't understand how firing Carr is by any means a good move in mid-season.
How about a litttle bit of blame attributed to the ****ing players. The defense is a joke and Henne is just isn't getting it. The OL is below average outside of Jake Long who is actually playing brilliantly.

How far do you think Henne has fallen in terms of draft stock?

He can rebound, players can always rebound because it is early in the season.
Right now though, tough to say. With the talent he has around him, I'd say round 5.
Most QBs just don't have guys like Mario Manningham and Jake Long on offense. The rest of the OL deserves some blame, but if you are a great QB then you can play with pressure, you have to play with pressure.
This is what makes QBs like Erik Ainge and Andre' Woodson great. They can take a hit and they aren't scared.
Brian Brohm might be in for something against Kentucky. He is very overrated in the sense that he has never succeeded when pressured. Ever. He looks great against teams with slow DLs. His OL and offensive scheme makes him look a little better than what he is. I don't know if he can stand in the pocket and take a hit. I still think he is easily the #2 QB and he has impressed me enough lately to be a top 15 pick. His arm strength is better than what I thought, but it is a long season.

Also, more on Henne.
He has fallen so low because we had questions about his decision making and POISE in the pocket last year and he hasn't improved on this. This could just be part of the package with his great arm. I hope he plays better, he really is a talented QB I just think he lacks confidence more than anything.

I've moved him to Round 3. I still think he's ranked higher than Josh Johnson, Matt Flynn, etc.
Matt McGuire
09-09-2007, 05:32 PM
Oh yea definately Walter you are right, but I still wouldn't take him in round 3.
Fact of the matter is, this class is much weaker at the QB position than we thought.
Outside of Woodson, Brohm, Ainge, and Ryan, not much to speak of.
Teams looking for backups franchise backups need to just sign FAs.

What about John David Booty?
Matt McGuire
09-09-2007, 06:07 PM
I haven't seen JDB play much this year, I don't want to comment on him until I see him play. Sucks I can't see the USC/Nebraska game. UK/UL has me calling to Commonwealth.
From what I hear about JDB is that he doesn't make many mistakes, but he doesn't make many great throws either. Idk what to make of him. He just doesn't stand out to me, I'd like to see more big throws displaying his talent if he has it in him.

As far as Booty's draft stock right now, I wouldn't draft him to be the savior of my franchise.
The team that drafts him needs to be sure that he fits their system #1, #2 is they have talent to support him.
A few teams I think he could go to: Minnesota (best fit for him, he has a great running game to rely on), Baltimore (same type of situation, has talent and a good defense), and Dallas (if Romo blows).

My thoughts on the topic...
Llyod Carr needs to just finish out the season and retire, talk going into the season was that he was seriously considering retiring after this season anyways. Let the man that brought you a national title, multiple Rose Bowl appearances and multiple big ten titles go out with whatever dignity he can at this point. The season is done for the most part. And they will fair better against most of the teams left on their schedule, becasue the spread offense almost disappears from it for the season as far as i know. And is it really a suprise, if you really follow Michigan, you knew ahead of time that this secondary had issues.
As for Chad Henne, 2 weeks ago i still had him #2 behind Brohm, but i agree he has dropped, i think part of his problems may also be the pressure of living up to the Heisman and first round pick hype. I agree with Walter though, i got him 3rd round right now, and plenty of time to rebound back to a first but, he has fallen to about #5 on my list behind Brohm, Woodson, Ryan and Booty. I wouldn't yet say he is below Ainge and Brennan though
Also for the record Walter, Henne was not benched, he left with an injury and is expected to miss at least their next game. In the wake of the injury, the only good thing to come from it is playing time for Freshman Ryan Mallett, who has the potential to be the next JaMarcus Russell, he has size, arm strength and Mobility that made Russell the top overall pick, he just needs the next 3-4 years to refine his skill...

I guess I misworded what I said. I wrote, "Chad Henne was benched after suffering an injury..."
Not sure if Carr would have benched him anyway though.

LOL, for some reason Craig, I don't even know why I didn't even consider Carr RETIRING after the season. The thing is, I don't know what is contract looks like. If he retires, then UM doesn't owe him a buy out. If he is fired, UM will certainly owe him some money...assuming his contract is in the millions I think he won't retire on his own terms because who would walk away from that free cash?
Also, how can you in any way say Henne>Ainge? How effecient/safe does Ainge have to be with the football before you rank him higher than the extremely inconsistent Henne?

I have to admit here, my lack of praise for Ainge, is more due to my lack of knowledge, i havent been able to see alot of him and the time or two i did last year, he didn't look all that great...

I think Carr retires before he is fired, even if it is a forced retirement. Reason being is there is a lot to be said about being a "Michigan Guy". And putting a "Michigan guy" through the embaracment of being fired is highly unlikely. He may be forced to resign, but even if he doesn't retire after this year, don't expect a public firing. Its that Michigan arrogance you hear about, they are to proud to fire one of their own...

Um, he wasn't all that great. He was good and he was raw, and he is still polishing his skills much like every other QB in college football.
He is a much much much better passer than Vince Young ever was, and yet I wouldn't be surprised if you thought that the Titans didn't reach for Young (they did).

Hey Walter, after Michigan's beatdown of Florida, should they still have fired Carr earlier in the season?
