I'll be posting some of my thoughts in here (and on the site as well) during the game if anyone wants to join.

I'll be here during the game....

Hope we get to see the rookies get a good run out.

Nice. I know Joe (JMSteelers) will be at the game.

T-minus 3 hours, 15 minutes and counting. I can't wait.

Walter

Anyone betting this game? I'm on the Steelers and the Under, and a small parlay on the Saints + Over to minimize losses, since it's the first game of the year.

Walter, what site do you bet on? I thought online gambling is illegal now in the US.

giantsfanmike

Gambling is a risky practice in pre season I think when you don't know what sort of team will be on the field.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:05 PM
Gambling is illegal in the U.S., but not if you bet through a site that doesn't have its offices in America.

For example, PinnacleSports.com had to shut down to the American public because its offices were in New York. Bodog, on the other hand, is located in Costa Rica. You're not really betting - you're telling them to bet for you. Because they're in Costa Rica, it doesn't matter.

The only reason betting is illegal here is because the government wants to control tax fraud. If you win money betting, there's no way to prove you won money, and you don't have to declare it on your taxes. They don't care if people lose money at all - it's not about that.

Game's about to start. I'm pumped.

I'm not happy about Bryant Gumble.

Go Saints!

Walter

Michael Irvin sounded so eloquent yesterday. I couldn't believe it was him.

I didn't watch his I saw Thurman's then I saw Irvin was next so I changed the channel.

You would have been surprised. It was a completely different person than the one who sounded like a complete idiot on ESPN.

I agree with the idiot part.

Walter

It looks like the graphic is going to fast for Gumble.

Yea they are fast.

"Ben Roethlisberger the best QB in the NFL a season ago"?

What is Collinsworth talking about?

"Ben Roethlisberger the best QB in the NFL a season ago"?

What is Collinsworth talking about?

He might have ment to say 2 but he would still be wrong.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:22 PM
You're cut, Nate Washington

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:22 PM
Yeah, really... did he forget about Brady and Manning?

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:23 PM
Touchdown! 7-0 Steelers!

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:24 PM
You're going to hear Gumble and Collinsworth bash the Saints tonight. But under Sean Payton, I don't think the Saints really care about winning preseason games. Remember how they got blown out by the Cowboys last year?

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:28 PM
I don't think the Saints should be playing Reggie Bush

giantsfanmike
08-05-2007, 07:28 PM
First glimpse of a rookie in a game tonight, Lamar Woodley starts.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:29 PM
Wow, how is LeBeau not in the Hall of Fame?

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:30 PM
Great play by Woodley, he looks really good

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:35 PM
Looked like pass interference to me.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:36 PM
The Saints are stopping the run well, but this is Najeh Davenport we're talking about. Not exactly Willie Parker.

giantsfanmike
08-05-2007, 07:40 PM
Saints are getting nothing from the Steelers D so far.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:41 PM
Pittsburgh's going to be an angry team to be reckoned with this year. This is just an example of the AFC's dominance over the NFC.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:43 PM
Don't challenge, Peyton, c'mon... Ugh.

bills_red
08-05-2007, 07:48 PM
Good challenge imo, should be NO ball

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:49 PM
He looked down to me... but still, why challenge in the preseason?

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:51 PM
Pass protection breaking down all of a sudden.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:52 PM
Damn you, Jeff Reed. Still 7-0...

Wonder if Brees and Co. will still be playing.

Walter
08-05-2007, 07:59 PM
Looks like Brian St. Pierre has a case of Rob Johnson syndrome.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:00 PM
It's still early, but Kerry Reed looks a lot better than Najeh Davenport. Maybe he can be Pittsburgh's new power back.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:09 PM
Who compares Reggie Bush to Thurman Thomas? They're completely different.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:13 PM
Collinsworth's nit-picking is pretty ridiculous. Who cares if he didn't have a run of 20 or more?

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:14 PM
Error: Gumble said Anwar Phillips is a first-year player out of Penn State.

Phillips was a rookie in '06.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:18 PM
Touchdown, 14-0.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:22 PM
Is it just me, or does Bryant Gumble sound like Kermit the Frog?

bills_red
08-05-2007, 08:28 PM
Who compares Reggie Bush to Thurman Thomas? They're completely different.

Yea, Thurman>>>>>>>>>>Reggie even in 10 years Thurman>>>>>>>>>>Reggie

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:29 PM
I can't even think of someone to compare Reggie Bush to... He's such a unique running back.

swifty222
08-05-2007, 08:34 PM
14-0 why the three QB in the first Q. looks like they have more qb ready to play. go pitt

Matt McGuire
08-05-2007, 08:34 PM
Did Irvin just say, "No one deserves to be in the HOF." ???

If no one was in the HOF, then wouldn't it lose its purpose? He is a total moron. I think he is a moron for other reasons, but ill not comment on those.

Matt McGuire
08-05-2007, 08:36 PM

Gael Sayers (sp?). But honestly, I am not that impressed with RB as a runner between the tackles. He never proved he could do it in college. They always used Len Dale White for those inside running plays. For some reason, I just never think RB will develop that part of his game. Maybe he is scared of getting hit or something.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:36 PM
I liked when Irvin said "I kiss my sons in the mouth every night."

Disgusting.

Oh, there's no doubt that Bush isn't an effective between-the-tackles runner. But what he does in terms of catching the ball out of the backfield and being capable of breaking any run is what makes him special.

Walter

BTW Matt, I'll send you an e-mail tonight. I meant to do so on Friday, but this weekend was crazy.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:41 PM
Looks like a catch - I don't think they should have challenges in the preseason. No point.

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:43 PM
Ben Roethlisberger's saying, "C'mon guys, I have the under, let's get into the locker room."

Walter
08-05-2007, 08:44 PM
The Steelers -2.5 looks good right now. The under is questionable - on pace to be a push. We'll have to see. Hopefully both hit.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:00 PM
That 52-percent stat (throwing the ball 20+ yards for Drew Brees) is really impressive.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:01 PM
Didn't look like he got the first down, but I'll take. I don't want a short field position for the Steelers given the under.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:07 PM
Gumble's really horrible... It's really disturbing.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:12 PM
17-7. Not cool.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:17 PM
Kevan Barlow's not going to make the team. It looks like the CFL or nothing for him.

Walter

Steelers 20, Saints 7

This whole quarter was two drives...

cp530
08-05-2007, 09:28 PM
hopefully no more scoring from either team

Walter

If I see this commercial again (the Hall of Fame speech highlights), I'm going to throw my TV out the window... even though I'm on the first floor, and the TV is too big to throw.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:33 PM
hopefully no more scoring from either team

Hopefully not. I'm scared of Jason Fife. He looks good and he's trying to prove himself.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:44 PM
Wow, Meachem just got lit up. What a huge hit by William Gay.

Walter

Do you have Comcast? I think it's only $1.99 per month.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:56 PM
Gary Russell looks good. He's talented, no doubt, but he was a problem in the locker room at the University of Minnesota. Well, not really in the locker room, but he was kicked off the team for being a trouble-maker.

Walter
08-05-2007, 09:57 PM
This stupid commercial's on again. I'm throwing my TV out the window now.

Walter
08-05-2007, 10:01 PM
Huge interception for the under.

Nice night for William Gay.

Walter

Game's over. Congrats to those who had the Steelers and the under. I'll have my thoughts on this game on my site soon, although if you've been reading this, you pretty much know what they are already.

Nice thread guys. I had a great time at the game! Woodley looked great and so did the rest of the Steelers defense. It is just preseason though.

Walter, glad you took my advice and took the under!

Walter
08-05-2007, 10:56 PM
Thanks Joe, good call on that. Glad you had a great time at the game - bet it was a lot of fun being there.

08-05-2007, 10:59 PM
Yes it was great! I really want to go when Bettis gets inducted in 2011. I have never been to the inductions.

I have been reading very good things about Woodley on Steelcityinsider.com. I am very excited about his future.

Walter
08-05-2007, 11:15 PM
Woodley looked really good.

My thoughts about the game are up here, Woodley mentioned, of course:

Pennington2Coles05's Postgame thoughts:Presented by Verizon Wireless.

The game was good, but it was a bit boring as well. The Steelers flat out dominated the Saints on almost every aspect of the game. The Saints had trouble gaining yards and points, until Jason Fife led the Saints to a 72 yard drive in the 3rd Quarter. Other than that, it was all Steelers. How Impressive did Carey Davis, running back of the Steelers looked? He ran for 68 yards on 7 carries, a whopping 9.7 Yards Per Carry. He ran over the Saints D. Brian St. Pierre also had a nice game, throwing for 129 yards, including a 3 yard pass to the young stud Santonio Holmes.

Overall, it was a nice game. It's great seeing some football again!

Sorry for Double post.

Walter
08-06-2007, 09:24 AM
Well, I think the Saints had trouble scoring because they didn't have a good game plan. They just didn't care about winning the game.

Carey Davis looked a bit like Jerome Bettis.

NCAA Dan, who used to write for this Web site when it was in its infancy, actually went to high school with Brian St. Pierre. He should be a No. 2 in this league.

I think most people believe the preseason is boring because they don't really care who wins. I wanted the Steelers to win last night so I could be right about my pick, so I didn't find it boring. If you have a rooting interest, you may have found it exciting - but maybe I'm just a football nut.
