  • Needles in the Hay Stack: Your 2013 Sleeper Picks

Out of all the college players to go in the late rounds of the draft, or even go undrafted, there are still those players who beat the odds and become big time NFL stars.

So who are all your favorite sleepers for the 2013 draft?

For me its a guy who is in a pretty unique situation and is a bit of a wildcard. An article on FieldGulls mentioned a guy I found interesting in Cincinnati DE Walter Stewart:

He was at one point ruled unable to continue playing football due to a newly discovered spinal condition. However, upon getting a second opinion he has been cleared to play football and has begun training for the Combine.

First thing you need to do is define "late round". I've seen these threads before and by the second page there are numerous posts talking about second and third round prospects.

Stewart won't be drafted and may be lucky to get a camp invite.

As for legitimate Day 3 picks who could make an impact...I'd say UCLA CB Sheldon Price, Clemson TE Brandon Ford, and Duke WR Conner Vernon.

Michael Mauti. He's like Lattimore. Definitely worth the risk in the 5th, should go 4th.

Well I would say 6th to UFA, but we never know who will rise/fall/be a random ass pick so lets just go with "Day 3" for now. Is that an okay definition or would you like further elaboration...

I remember liking Price while watching the Pac-12

I think Kenjon Barner has his place in the league.

I'm a huge Knile Davis fan as well. I think he's going to be one of the better backs out of this class when we look back in a few years.

An early day 3 guy I really like is Ray Graham but in general I'd say RBs don't really count because there is always talent drafted late at the position.

Two real late round to UDFA guys I like are JT Floyd and Michael Clay. JT Floyd reminds of Kelly Jennings and I think he should be a solid slot CB who could be 3rd or 4th on the roster. Michael Clay reminds me of Malcolm Smith who could be a contributor playing special teams while backing up at Will LB waiting for a shot to start.

                  That's ok.
This was more for other people than me.

I think Devonte Holloman is looked at as a 5-7th rounder, but I love his explosiveness and passion for the game. I have him in my top 150, and think he could blossom into an outstanding 4-3 OLB. He is a converted safety, so he has some nice coverage skills for that scheme, and is also an efficient blitzer.

                      3-4 DE Abry Jones.

Broke out in 2011 but struggled with an injury for the early part of the 2012 season until that same injury forced him to IR.

I think he's a diamond in the rough.

Many quarterbacks and coaches have come and gone, but none have been able to fight off this condition. There are some players with star talent on the roster, but the since there isn't enough hive immunity from sucking, the Browns continue to falter and can't seem to produce wins. I'll defer here to Johnnyallstar as he might have some information on the Browns' timeline of recovery and chances of reinjury.

Ryan Swope in round 4 would be day three, right? Well I really like Swope is the point.

I'm not a Swope fan at all.

NFP just had a piece about small school prospects before the Shrine Bowl with him and Mike Catapano (DE Princeton) where Catapano seemed to do the most to help himself.

                              Michael Floyd > Justin Blackmon
