Super Bowl QB winners and where they were drafted

Yeah, this is how bored I was tonight before my gf showed up at my place. I decided that I wanted to find out how many QBs that won Super Bowls were drafted in the first round. In this list I managed to find every QB since 1967 that started and won the Super Bowl, what team they played for, what round they where drafted in, when they were drafted, and by who.

As one can see, the theory that a franchise QB that is selected in the 1st round paying off is a pretty good one. Sure there have been some failures such as Tim Couch, Akili Smith, and Ryan Leaf, but not only do over half of these Super Bowl wins have QBs selected in the first round, many of the wins are by a first overall pick, proving that yes, it's ok to take a chance and select a QB first overall....it just might pay off.

The two freaks of nature obviously are Montana and Brady. But I'd be willing to say that those two QBs are more the exception than the rule...first round QBs pay off.

*denotes that player was selected first pick overall the year he was drafted

#Jeff Hostetler started in place of an injured Phil Simms, who was selected in the first round by the Giants in 1979 and helped them to their Super Bowl win in 1987.

! - Steve Young played in the USFL before being selected by the Buccaneers with the 1st pick of the 1985 supplemental draft.

Where are you getting that from? He was picked in the FIRST round by both NFL and AFL teams.
