  • Expansion Team Draft Class

If you were given an expansion team, would you rather have your first draft in the 08 Draft Class of the 09 Draft Class? Expansion teams are given the first and last selection of each round.

Name some players you'd take with your 14 selections.

Every round? It's an expansion team.

And why do you get the 1st and last pick of each round?

I thought expansion teams only get the 1st pick of each round?

Hmm for simplicity sake my team is running a Base 4-3 D and I'm gonna assume that every team would make the same pick even with my selections messing up their draft boards. I'm also ignoring compensatory picks in my numbering.

        Round 1:

        1.Chris Long

        Round 2:

        33. Brian Brohm

        Round 3:

        66. Pat Sims

        Round 4:

        99. Tashard Choice

        Round 5:

        132. Carl Nicks

        Round 6:

        165. Jonathan Goff

        Round 7:

        198. Steve Johnson

I'm drafting for BPA in positions of need, which is every, based on hindsight

Ya, the two picks was to make up for the lack of an expansion draft. Whatever though, one pick is fine. I think I would use 2008 draft class only because I would probably tank the next season and still get the #1 in 2009.

                2009 Draft - 3-4 Defense
                1. LT Michael Oher, Ole Miss
                2. DE Tim Jamison, Michigan
                3. QB Chase Daniel, Missouri
                4. RB P.J. Hill, Wisconsin
                5. G Steve Rehring, Ohio State
                6. P Kevin Huber, Cincinnati
                7. CB Ladarius Webb, Nicholls State

The idea is to get the core of your team. Therefore the obvious first choice is a franchise left tackle in the absence of a clear franchise quarterback in the mix. Jamison gets the nod because of his athleticism making him a possible future premier pass rusher for the defense. Daniel and Hill both have been productive in college and have tremendous upside. Rehring is a solid value in the fifth round. I could see being criticized for taking a punter with an expansion team in the draft. However, Huber is an incredible punter which will be important on an expansion team. The field position advantage he can give you would be a great asset to a young team. Ladarius Webb is a better corner than 7th round value but playing at a smaller school will hurt his draft stock enough to possibly make him fall here.

I'll go with my draft based on the real one, myself just having the first and last picks in every round (Before Dolphins, After Giants).

1st pick, 1st round: Chris Long
33rd Pick, 1st Round: Brian Brohm
1st Pick, 2nd Round: DeSean Jackson
33rd Pick, 2nd Round: Dan Connor
1st Pick, 3rd Round: Charles Godfrey
33rd Pick, 3rd Round: Tashard Choice
1st Pick, 4th Round: Roy Schuening
33rd Pick, 4th Round: Marcus Howard
1st Pick, 5th Round: Carl Nicks
33rd Pick, 5th Round: Athbya Rubin
1st Pick, 6th Round: Haruki Nakamura
33rd Pick, 6th Round: Kirk Barton
1st Pick, 7th Round: Adrian Arrington
33rd Pick, 7th Round: Erin Henderson

Expansion teams don't get two picks each round by the way. They do get plenty of compensatory selections and an expansion draft though.
