I see the the field to be narrrowed from, in no particular order other than tip off, Dallas, Chicago, Orlando, and Golden State. Let the games begin.

BTW--My big (and only) play in the NFL last week was the Titans. If I picked every game, I would have gotten slaughtered. I have no idea what is going on with the Vegas handicappers, but my reverence for their wisdom tells me THEY ARE DOING THIS ON PURPOSE. Why? I just don't know. Around here, all the square bettors are killing the books, taking the favorite and the over A&R like it's going out of style (I thought it had).

Theory: Is it possible that because sharp bettors usually bet more and tend to take underdogs that Vegas is in the midst of a "correction", similar to what the Fed does with interest rates to influence investment? Or are they just handicapping badly?

I took Golden State last night in the wake of a major line correction--at about 7:30 the line went from Spurs -3 to Golden State -1.5, possibly on the news that Duncan was not going to play, though he was questionable anyway.

Hey, can someone help out a rookie? What's the best link to see the daily betting lines on the NBA?

I like vegasinsider.com and covers.com for that. At Covers, click on the "Game Matchup" to see the different casinos and opening lines. Beware the Covers articles and forums, though, as there is much false information there.

I think you might be right. If there are more and more websites taking note of suspicous line movement the way walt does, then eventually people playing this information will affect how line is set, and I could completely see Vegas adjusting, and then going one step further and killing people who bet this way.

I've narrowed this one to Chicago and Golden State. Both line moves comensurate with betting. Also, both teams seem to be in a groove-all basketball is streaky, but shooting teams are streakier, and these are shooting teams shooting well.

Virtually never. I find that the totals are very accurate in the NBA, and I really don't know how they figure them. But I really don't do totals in general, unless I have a very compelling reason.

I like Chicago tonight. The line is falling its way and the Pacers look completely discombobulated in the wake of the Jamal Tinsley situation
