(12:01 AM): 49ers win could jumble early draft order… San Francisco knocked of Cincinnati 20-13 in a special Saturday night game last evening, in the process likely shuffling the early selection order for the 2008 draft. The 49esr had entered the weekend sitting in the second pick overall, a traded they actually traded to New England at the 2007 draft, but with the win could drop several spots. That’s because the other teams that had been tied with the 49ers with 3-10 records are each in tough later this afternoon. For example, St. Louis, which would have the third pick were the draft held today, is home to Green Bay, although the Rams may have QB Marc Bulger, who has missed several weeks with a concussion, back in the starting lineup. Elsewhere, Atlanta, which would have the 4th pick, will be in Tampa Bay to play the playoff bound Buccaneers, while, the Jets, who had the 5th pick entering the weekend, will be up against both the elements and the unbeaten Patriots when they play in New England this afternoon. Meanwhile, Miami will officially wrap up the #1 pick at the 2008 draft if the Dolphins can’t get into the win column later this afternoon; they play at home to disappointing Baltimore, which would have the 8th pick were the draft held today.
We need to really start following the draft order to get more accurate projections. The Pats certainly love the 49ers win because they won't have to pay whoever they pick more money and they are going to be struggling with teh cap...if they can get to pick somewhere around #6 or #7 and the top rated quarterback in the draft is still available someone might trade up to get him (whether if it is Ryan, Woodson, or Brohm it is still up in the air).
