  • Jim Tressel's legacy

1st off, I think Jim Tressel is the 2nd greatest college football coach of all time (Next to Larry Kehres head coach at mount union).

Tressel was once the coach of my school (Youngstown State) and led us to 4 National titles. We were one of the most dominant football programs of the 90's. Once Tressel left our football program wasn't the same. He borught somehting to the city of Youngstown that we have not seen before and maybe never will. I respect Tressel more than any person I know.

I don't give a damn what this guy does at Ohio State, what he did for YSU is by far and away the most important thing in my mind. However, most people don't care what he did at YSU, and that will have no effect on his legacy outside the municipality of Youngstown Ohio. My question is, what is Jim Tressel's legacy right now?

The man has won 200+ college football games.

    Won 5 National titles

Has been to 9 National titles

    Is 6-1 against Michigan

    Bought down the Miami dynasty

However, are the past 2 national championship games enough to ruin what is a great legacy?

Bear Bryant is the greatest college coach of all time. I also would put Spurrier above Tressel.

Pete Caroll has been more impressive at USC than Tressel has at Ohio State.

Still, I think in today's game, I love Jim Tressel. He runs a pro style offense and I have a great respect for how he runs his program.

Maybe in 10 years if he continues his success he can crack the top 2 or 3.

Those coaches don't have 9 National CHmpionshp apperances and 5 national titles. You can't discredit what Tressel did at YSU because it's I-AA. That road is tougher than the FBS.

Out of all the active head coaches where would you rank him?

Sorry my friend, I love Ohio State and Tressel but I-AA dosen't transfer into I-A. It's just like baseball what you do in the minors doesn't come with you in the majors.

If your and Ohio State fan then you know one thing and one thing only. That is the only stat that matters is 6-1 against Michigan.

It doesn't matter how many win over all he has or National titles or bowl win. As long as that record agaist Michigan continues to grow then his legend will grow with it, maybe not in the National view, but in Ohio we now taking down Michigan is more important then any title.

I-AA football is far from the minor league. And when it comes time to induct Tressel in the college football hall of fame, those numbers do roll over. If what a coaches record in the MAC, Sunbelt or C-USA counts, then Tressel's national titles at a school that's better than almost every team in each one of those conferences counts too. The gold is just the same in his national title ring with YSU than the one with OSU.

It doesnt matter if you are a fan or not if you look objectively at what he has done he is one of the best of all time. The players he sends to the pros eclipses Pete Carrol's (The other best coach in football at this time) which speaks for itself.

Tressel is a very good coach. In my opinion he is great. He will rack up tons of wins as long as hes in Colombus. OSU was supposed to rebuild this year and look where they went. Yeah they lost a tough one but not many teams have the success that Tressel's do. Also, Tressel is reaching down into Florida to try and snag some speed guys. I feel he will get back to the championship and win again at OSU. When? who knows...

Might be important to OSU fans, but the general football population will remember the 2 losses.
