A deal sending Jets linebacker Jonathan Vilma to the Saints will be completed and announced as early as this morning, according to NFL sources. The teams reached a tentative agreement Thursday night, with the Jets getting a conditional draft pick, probably in 2009, based on Vilma's performance.

Weird I'd love to know what the conditions are....

Vilma will be a good fit in New Orleans IF they get a nice D-Tackle.

I love Vilma and we was a perfect fit before they changed defenseive schemes... Saints got a steal on this one and guess the Jets got a decent price in return

If the Jets didn't do this trade now they would get nothing when Vilma becomes a free agent in 09 and walks. Plus the knee injury and partly because teams know Vilma doesn't fit the Jets scheme is why he was valued at a 3rd rounder. Def a solid trade for the Saints. Now if they could get some secondary help...

good for Vilma... I've always liked him, he just got caught up in the wrong defensive scheme. Now he goes to a team with a shot at contending.

Good trade for all parties. Vilma get back into a 4-3, where he is naturally suited, and The Jets get something for him because he was definitely walking. He'll also be the leader and impact player New Orleans desperately needs on defense.

The Saints have completed a trade with the Jets to acquire linebacker Jonathan Vilma.

                      Official.

"Though terms of the deal weren't announced, it is believed Vilma will go to the Saints for a fourth-round pick in 2009 that could be upgraded to a third-round based on how he plays in 2008. Vilma is in the final year of his contract and he goes to New Orleans without a new deal."

                      WTF?! That's it?! Better be more like a 2nd or a 3rd!

And it isn't even for this year!!!!

That injury screwed the Jets. He's worth more than that.

They should've traded him after 2006, when it was painfully obvious that he couldn't play the 3-4, and he hadn't blown out his knee yet. He would've easily commanded a 1st or 2nd at that time. I'd still like to see what the conditions are, and if they are based more on stats or playing time. Either way, if the end up with a 3rd Rounder, that's still not horrible seeing as how there is no way he was staying after 2008.

Good news about this all, well for Jets fans at least.

"Just got off the phone with Mike Tannenbaum on a conference call. He said that the Jets aren't getting a conditional pick in 2009 from the Saints for Vilma. He said the deal is for a solid pick THIS YEAR in 2008 and, based on Vilma's production, possibly another pick in 2009. And it sounds like that second one could be a third-rounder."

                              Much better if true!
