  • Question on Jake Long

I don't remember if I was watching NFL Network or ESPN, but soneone had said Jake Long would play right tackle and MAYBE left tackle in the pro's.

Now if that is the case, would a team spend a top 5 pick on a right tackle?

I and Mike Mayock both say he can be an elite right tackle in this league and a good left tackle. I agree with that.

People that compare him to Joe Thomas don't have a clue. He is more like Chad Clifton. I think he presents enough value for the Falcons to take at #3. I think Sedrick Ellis and Glenn Dorsey are better players and thus I think the Rams should take one of them at #2 (I have always said Dorsey is better, then all of a sudden everyone and Walter gets on his bandwagon at the Senior Bowl but I still said dorsey was better. After a disappointing combine where he tried to look like a NT when that isn't his game he was overweight imo and didn't show the speed I wanted and others wanted).

Elite DTs in a draft are rare. We haven't seen one since 2001 and Richard Seymour was the top DT in that class followed by Marcus Stroud (and everyone thought Gerrard Warren was a reach at #3 to the Browns).

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

He will be an LT. Long is worth more then Ellis or Dorsey IMO, but I agree he won't be HOF quality, just very good.

I agree that he's not Joe Thomas, but he's not a Robert Gallery either.

You never know. Gallary was a "can't miss" prospect and the "safe pick" and look how that turned out.

Well most OL are... Gallery was a rare miss. Nothing's 100 percent.

Well you can't be afraid to make a draft pick. Everyone has bust potential and has pro bowl potential. For every ryan leaf and robert gallery theres a tom brady and a tony romo. Jake Long is a great prospect and has everything you looking for physically and mentally to be a 10+ year starter. OT either LT or RT is a very important position. I wouldn't be afraid to take him #1 if my teams biggest need was at OT.

You can't be afraid to make a draft pick but you should be cautious. Take the best player available at a position of need. I just don't think Jake Long, like I said earlier, are better than Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey.

Amazing EVERYONE is underrating these two guys. Best DT class since 2001 EASILY. Elite DT prospects are rare ... I think Dorsey is elite like you know but Ellis came very very close.

Just look at what teams did this off-season for defensive tackles. Mangini and Crennel already know coming from NE that if you don’t stop the run your team is close to a fraud. They weren’t going to deal with it anymore. I agree to be careful passing them up, there aren’t too many.
