Gholston v. C. Long.... who is a better OLB in a 3-4?

    Gholston v. C. Long.... who is a better OLB in a 3-4?

    I'm asking this because I've been entertaining the notion that Gholston could go at #1 overall to Miami. Maybe Parcells sees him as a possible next LT (the real LT, not LT2) of this generation.

    Also, Jake Long is said to be the best tackle on the board.... Gholston had no problem with him when they played each other.

    Gholston has a fiery personality and is a monster athlete. He played against better competition in the Big 10 than Long in the ACC. That might also be a factor.

    But the truth is I have seen a few of Gholston's games but I've never seen C. Long other than clips and highlights.

    What, in the consensus of draftniks, gives Chris Long the edge over Gholston in so many mocks?

    They are similar athleticaly however Long held up as a down linemen in the 3-4 a lot more than he should have been put there which in all honesty left him out of position. He needed to rotate from line to linebacker more. What that did was show that he could hold his own in the trinches for a long time against 300+ pound Tackles and make a difference even at 265 Pounds. That would up any tandom player's stock at that size.

    Another is his pedigree, remember, he is the son of Howie Long. Scouts see a lot of Howie in his game and that goes a long way if you can even remotly remind a team, let alone an entire league of your Hall of Fame dad.

    Those are the reasons I would take Long over Gholeston.

      I think that Gholston will be a better OLB, but Long is a much better 3-4 DE.

        Long is better overall. He can do both and do them masterfully.

        Now as a 3-4 RUSH Linebacker I say Gholeston. Gholeston will rush the passer much better than Long will in the pro's.

          Um, the guy plays DE in a 4-3 scheme. Long played LB and DE in a 3-4. What makes you think that the roid machine Gholston can make open field tackles all over the field?? He disappears from games even at the DE spot.

            Long is a better overall player, but there is no denying gholston has tremendous athletic ability.
