  • Giants question...

Why is everyone saying that Mathias Kiwanuka would be the one who moves into Strahan's DE position when he retires? I know he can play DE, but they've got Justin Tuck. Does Tuck lack the stamina to play DE full time? He's certainly productive enough.

Probably because he (Tuck) was so productive at the DT position. If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Tuck would be the starting DE. Tuck moved inside on passing downs which he would do again if Strahan retired, with Kiwi on the outside where Strahan was. This is my opinion.

Tuck is not a defensive tackle.

Tuck isn't a DT, he is a DE/OLB hybrid like Kiwi. Both would be in the rotation.

Exactly. They only play DT and OLB, respectively, because they're very talented and the coaches want the best talent on the field, so they find a way to put those guys in.

Tuck usually plays DT on passing downs, then rotates in at DE to give Osi or Strahan a breather. Before his injury, Kiwanuka would also move from OLB to DT in nickel packages.

Kawinuka would move to DE for depth.
            2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

I don't remember ever hearing that Kiwanuka would move into the starting role. My opinion is Tuck would take over as the starter and Kiwanuka would move into Tuck's current role.

Although Tuck would probably still be the one sliding inside to DT when needed.

You can never have to many pass rushers. I think Kiwanuka would play a lot of downs just being in the rotation.

NNC is right. A good rotation keeps your guys fresh, and, of course, increases your pass rush.

Which is exactly how they won the Super Bowl. Brady had a constant barage of rested rushers in his face that his exhausted line couldn't keep up with. The more the merrier.

If the Tuck rule not is in effect then Kiwanuka starts right?

I think it would be a rotation of Tuck and Kiwanuka. Except on third downs, when they move Tuck inside.

Doesn't matter...drafting Kiwanuka was still a dumb pick. It truly befuddled me when they made it.
