  • GQ's 3 Round Mock Draft

I just finished and couldn't wait to put it up on the site. This is my first time so please be gentel with me, I don't want it to hurt. Hope you guys like it.

    1) Miami Dolphins: Jake Long, OT, Michigan - It doesn’t appear that Miami can go wrong here. They could go with Dorsey or Ellis and put them at DE in the 3-4, I don‘t think either would far well at NT. Or they could go Chris Long or Gholston at OLB, both would make a great addition to there defense. However looking at Miami’s current roster, there is a big void of depth and talent on the offensive line and I believe Miami will begin filling that void with Jake Long.

    2) St. Louis Rams: Chris Long, DE, Virginia - With Jake Long gone, the offensive line will have to wait. The Rams will be more than happy to put Chris Long on side of last years first rounder Adam Carriker.

    3) Atlanta Falcons: Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC - With three second round picks, I think Atlanta should trade this pick strait up with Cleveland to acquire Derek Anderson. However for the purpose of the draft we’ll say that doesn’t happen and Sedrick Ellis will make a good upgrade at DT and a great dirty bird.

    4) Oakland Raiders: - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU - With Sapp retiring and a defense that gave up 145.9 rushing yards per game (second to last in the NFL), I think Oakland will replace Sapp with Dorsey. I know it will be tempting to go after McFadden, but with the signing of Fargas and Rhodes and Jordan for back up I think even Al Davis will resist and go for Dorsey.

    5) Kansas City Chiefs: - Ryan Clady, OT, Boise State - Giving up 55 sacks last year tied for last in the NFL, it’s time for KC to fix the line. I think we have a situation similar to last years draft when Joe Thomas and Levi Brown went early. I don’t think Long and Clady are the same caliper as those two but I see the picks play out the same why.

    6) New York Jets: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas - McFadden, Gholston, McFadden, Gholston, McFadden, Gholston, McFadden, Gholston, McFadden, Gholston, McFadden, Gholston, and the coin flip heads McFadden. Jones is 29 and a ok running back. McFadden will be a play making type of back, the kind that will be able to take some pressure off a young and developing quarterback. Plus I don’t think the Jets want New England to add McFadden to that offence, do you?

    7) New England Patriots: - Vernon Gholston, DE/OLB, The Ohio State - Oh the luck of the draft. Not only does San Francisco have a pathetic year, they give up the 7th overall pick to the best team in the NFL (sorry New York you had a great year but New England is still the class of the NFL). With even some more luck Gholston falls right into there laps.

    8) Baltimore Ravens: Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College - If you remember last year Baltimore almost traded with Dallas before Cleveland did to get Brady Quinn. So this year with a new coach and system and the best quarterback still on the board Baltimore goes with Matt Ryan.

    9) Cincinnati Bengals: Keith Rivers, OLB, USC - With the top defensive tackles off the board in Dorsey and Ellis Cincinnati will take the top linebacker. Look for Cincinnati to go DT in the second.

    10) New Orleans Saints: Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami - With the acquisitions of Vilma and Gay this will allow the Saints to upgrade free safety and most likely pick up a corner in the second round.

    11) Buffalo Bills: Derrick Harvey, DE, Florida - With Malcolm Kelly recent 40 time, and even if he redeems himself at his personal combine. I still would see his stock drop to the second round. The Bills our thin and have minimum talent at defensive end, Harvey should be able to bolster that position.

    12) Denver Broncos: Dan Connor, OLB/MLB, Penn State - Denver like Cincinnati needs new beef up front, witch will have to wait in till later in the draft. This may be high for Connor’s to go but Denver need an immediate impact player on defense and I feel that Connor can step right in and make an impact.

    13) Carolina Panthers: Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt - It would be nice to see Jake Delhomme make it through this season and it would be even better not to see Testie again. Williams should provide an upgrade to the o-line.

    14) Chicago Bears: Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois - Quite simply Benson isn’t getting the job done. The offensive line may have something to do with that, and the Bears will have to address that in the rest of the draft along with a QB. Also this will keep Detroit from landing Mendenhall, so kind of a double win.

    15) Detroit Lions: Leodis McKelvin, CB, Troy State - This should be a simple pick for Millen. Bodden was a nice pickup in the Roger’s deal as long as he stays healthy and that‘s a big if.. Detroit will need more help in the secondary after all the years of taking a wide receiver in the first round, it’s time to help out the defense. Detroit may struggle with not taking DeSean Jackson we will have to wait and see.

    16) Arizona Cardinals: Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, CB, Tennessee State - If Cromarti falls this far the Cardinals will take him and hold off till the second round for a running back.

    17) Minnesota Vikings: Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson -
    18) Houston Texans: Mike Jenkins, CB, South Florida
    19) Philadelphia Eagles: James Hardy, WR, Indiana
    20) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: DeSean Jackson, WR/PR, California

    23) Pittsburgh Steelers: Branden Albert, OG, Virginia

DEREK ANDERSON ISN'T WORTH A 3RD ROUND PICK! let alone #3. maybe for Quinn straight up, but not for Anderson. Anderson blows nuts.

and in the 3rd, Atlanta doesn't have any need for a WR. in the first 3 rounds. we get MLB Phillip Wheeler i nthe 3rd.

You think NO passes on DRC and McKelvin to take a S whose stock is falling?

There is no way the Bears take a 4th round DT in rd 2.

If you put a QB or another OL in the rd 2 hole, its not a bad draft scenario for chicago.

Just an aside, I live in Des Moines, I have seen Rubin play in person many times, He is GARBAGE. How he gets taken before round 4 is beyond me. It seems that sometimes scouts dont look at tape once the combine numbers are in. Give him to Millen at 15, or in round 4, he can single handedly make Ced Benson look good running up the middle
                  Bears offseason wish list:

Jay Cutler, I am good, for now.

Matt McGuire said on TDMMC that he loves Rubin.

A lot of people loved Ryan Leaf too....

I am taking nothing away from the guys on this site, Matt and Walter have great insight, and I have been reading the mocks here for months. I have seen Rubin play in person 4 times and he made 0 impact in any game. 2 of those games were against Iowa, which isnt exactly an offensive line powershouse anymore. I would figure that an NFL DT should be solid at stopping the run or rushing the passer, niether talent was evident in Rubin.

San Diego needs a RT badly. They'll take Gosder Cherlius if he's available.

Calais Campbell is not a 2nd round prospect anymore, much less a 2nd round prospect to the Titans.

I'm not sure why Dallas would take Beau Bell, either.

And the Giants don't need a guard, especially not in R3. Beyond that, it's good.

I’m sorry Bear fan, but an honest assessment of your team (not a homer assessment), shows there are needs everywhere on that offence. Now I already have three offensive tackles taken before the Bears, so they could reach for a four or go with a top offensive player in the draft like Mendenhall.

Now losing Tank last year really hurt the Bears on run defense. Did you know the Bears defense was ranked 27th and there offence was ranked 26th. Now I didn’t see the Bears play that much last year but when I did see them play or highlights, teams ran right up the middle. Now you may not like Rubin but he will fill a big void left by Tank.

Again sorry it took so long for the chips to fall right. However I finally got the Bears a tackle in the third round along with Manningham. I know Hester at WR looks good on paper but more WR is needed.

Once again sorry Rome wasn’t built over night and neither will the Bears.

No one in this draft is going to save the Bears right away. You have to take into account the massive amount of injuries at DT last year. If Dvoracek is healthy that run defense is dominant again. We do need depth because he hasnt stayed healthy in his career, but you dont draft depth in RD2 when you have so many other needs. The mendenhall pick is fine if theres OL in RD2. Even angelo has to see the need for top flight OL in this draft. In your scenario, I feel a trade out of the pick is most likely.
