  • Browns Draft 2007-2008

My first post so we shall see.

Now the Cleveland Browns 2007 Draft I feel was pretty dang successful. Now the Brady Quinn trade was questionable but Derek Anderson I do not believe will be the long term answer. He was Dan Marino against the poor Cincy pass defense but was average aganst the Raiders good defense. Now I admit that the verdict is still in the air on him but if Quinn gets time to develope off the field for a year or two he will be a great quarterback. Joe Thomas has played well for the Browns. He will be a star. The cornerback Wright will also be a good player but that may take time.

The 2008 draft. No first round picks. RB's Mike Hart and Ray Rice may be available at that position. However the Browns biggest need lies on defense. Their line is so old someone may fall over from a heart attack on the field. Ted Washington is turning into a fat Abe Simpson, Granted every now and then the Sergent Abe from WW2 still he is old and Gilbert Brown slow. They need linemen because they have a great linebacking core and they get beat on way too much. Leigh Bodden has been injured for two years and Wright is no where near ready to be a number 1 corner. Their safeties are solid, but their corners need work and line just flat sucks. Joe Jurevicius is a great number three however doesn't have the natural skill to be a number 2. If Josh Cribbs continues to improve he may fill that role next year but they should draft someone in the middle rounds just in case he doesn't. They need to address the Running Back, D-Line, Cornerback, and Reciever in this draft. Even without a #1 the draft is not as much a loss as many experts and execs would like you to believe. I believe the Browns are only a few players from causing major problems for opponents. This Draft could help that in many ways.

    Welcome to the forum.

    I deleted the double post.

It's a shame the Browns don't have any No. 1 picks. So, whom do you see them taking with their first selection? You mentioned Rice and Hart, but acknowledged they have bigger needs on D.

      Welcome to WF.com...

I like the Browns move trading for Quinn despite what pick they get this year, which you can't/don't anticipate. They have their franchise QB and their fans have hope and it will help sell a lot of tickets if this team does well in the long run.

Anyways, I really see the Browns going RB in round 2 next year. A lot of very good RBs will be there in round 2...also I don't see Ray Rice committing. Doesn't make sense to me when Choice, McFadden Stewart (who is much better than Rice), Hart, etc. will be in the draft pool.

I agree, Matt. Jamal Lewis signed a 1-year deal, so RB seems like the logical choice. Maybe the Browns move up to draft Choice or Stewart.

I don't think so. You can stand pat and still find a very good player, plus they have too many holes to fill on their team to trade up and pull an Eric Weddle trade.

Plus, I don't think Tashard Choice has the physical tools to go ahead of Allen Patrick or Jonathan Stewart in round 1.

No.... Tashard Choice is ranked higher than both Stewart and especially Patrick.

Also, Michael Turner could be an option for the Browns via trade.

What do you mean by especially Patrick? The guy has been tearing it up this year and has been more consistent than Choice.

No way you can have Stewart rated higher than Choice with his size and speed combo and his production. I'll have Stewart rated higher than Reggie Bush when it is all said and done.

Why not just sign him as a FA?

You're right, I forgot the Chargers chose to let Turner go via free agency after this season. Huge mistake by A.J. Smith IMO - should have traded him last summer.

I don't think so. What would a 2nd round pick do for them this season? If you are trying to win a Super Bowl then you keep the best backup RB in the NFL.

If you're trying to win a Super Bowl, you don't hire Norv Turner as your coach! LOL
