Ok, Walter, how good do you think the Texans would be if this was there offseason.

    The Draft:
    1. Darrelle Revis
    3. Kenny Irons
    4. Sabby Piscitelli
    5. Dallas Baker
    6. Roderick Rogers
    7. Steve Breaston

    They Cut:
David Carr, Domanick Davis, Eric Moulds, Jeb Putzier, Steve McKinney, Jason Babin, Seth Payne, Morlon Greenwood, and Kailee Wong

    And Signed:
Seneca Wallace, Mike Gandy, Dewayne White, Sammy Knight, LaVar Arrington, Drew Bennett, Keith Traylor, Kelly Herndon, Rian Lindell, Adam Timmerman, and Matt Turk

    Walter Says:

Well, signing Arrington is inconsequential because he's shot and likely won't play in 2007.

I think Houston's going to win 5 or 6 games this year for the following reasons:

    1. Offensive line
    2. No running game
    3. No weapons on offense other than Andre Johnson
    4. No pass rush
    5. Weakness vs. run

Do those signings and draft picks fix those problems?

Not 1 - Timmerman's old, and while Gandy would help, he wouldn't be enough.
Not 2 - Can't really trust a third-round rookie (Irons) to carry the load. He might be good, but I'm not sure.
Not 3 - Drew Bennett's better than Kevin Walter, but I wouldn't call him a weapon.

Darrelle Revis, Dewayne White, Keith Traylor, Kelly Herndon, Sammy Knight and Rian Lindell would all help 4 and 5. Still, the offense would be a problem, especially if Matt Schaub isn't the QB the Texans are expecting him to be. Remember, Schaub is also an unknown.

With those moves I'd say 7-9 or 8-8. What do you think?

The oline is one of the most important positions on the football team, but I don't think the texans know this.

They did spend 2 3rd round picks on OL in 2006 (Eric Winston and Charles Spencer) and Winston impressed of Spencer went down with an injury.

Houston did themseleves in when Caper wanted to run a 3-4 defense from the start, this put the franchise back 4 years (no I'm not kidding...4 years). Also, the pick of David Carr imo was a mistake. Teams are starting to learn to build around their QB instead of the other way around.

I could see Houston being a surprise team next year and win 6 or 7 games possibly. But Matt Shaub has to be gold behind a mediocre line and I don't know if he (or any QB that breathes) can survive.

For Shaub's sake, I hope he has a clause in his contract that says when he gets sacked 50 times this season he gets a bonus. Becuase that's probably what's going to happen. They have no running game, so defenses will be bringing the rush hard. With no o-line, Shaub is the next human pinate - taking that title from Carr...

David Carr's agent is an idiot for not asking for that clause.

Houston really are terrible. No recieving options except AJ and Owen Daniels (who is not even an elite TE, but passable). Their second recieving options at WR are a joke. I'd probably put a guy like David Tyree ahead of them. Theres probably teams in Arena Football with better recievers than the likes of Kevin Walter and Jermome Mathis.

Their offensive line is pretty bad. Sure David Carr took an age at times to get rid of the ball, but their O-Line is at fault as well. I can't believe they went into last season thinking two third round rookies would get them through the season at either tackle position. Stupid or what?

Ahman Green is also just about done. The guy is yet another year older and behind a worse offensive line. He is gonna be expected to carry the load a lot as well IMO, with Schaub in his first year as a starter. Sure Ron Dayne, Wali Lundy etc will chip in, but I don't expect much from them on the ground and the future at that position doesn't look great to me IMO.

Defensively their Line looks set with four first rounders, however outside of Demeco Ryans I don't see much in their starting linebackers. Their secondary as well outside of Dunta Robinson is a disaster, and like WR and OT they didn't properly address that in the off-season either. Fred Bennett will probably end up as the starter by mid-season IMO, but nevertheless the guy is a fourth round rookie and he ain't going to address much. CC Brown and Glenn Earl don't even look like being challenged much for their spots and that surely must be a worry.

In all honesty I see a top 5 pick again for Houston. They remind me of the Browns at the start of the Millenium. Building round the defensive line, having untried but potentially good guys at QB, but nothing to help them.

If anyone wants a laugh go onto the Official Texans messageboard. They really believe on there that they are a play-off team.

                Are you serious? lol

I really feel like the NFL should give the Texans a first round comp pick (ala affirmative action for Houston lol). They are just so bad and they have like 12 need picks next year to address...they just gave up way to much for Matt Schuab imo.

Yeah I can't believe they actually gave up two second rounders for Schaub who is more or less unproven.

Does anyone think they'd have been better off say bringing in someone like Jake Plummer for a couple of years (Kubiak was Plummer's OC for a few years in Denver so this would have made sense to me IMO) and say using a second rounder on Trent Edwards. Groom him for a couple of years not to mention you will also have saved another second rounder for the 2008 draft.

Hell they could have taken Brady Quinn instead and in the second they would have been able to land a top reciever like Jarrett or Rice and have a very good recieving pair for years to come if they didn't do this rip-off trade.

Trading for Shaub was a huge mistake!!! He's never won a start in the NFL and his numbers look like Chris Simms' numbers. (For those of you who don't know, Simms' numbers... I'll just say they f'n suck!!!) And everything they gave up for him... Wow!

If I were the Texans GM, I'd kill myself... Er I mean I'd draft o-line in the first two rounds of every draft until I find some solid starters.

But to look on the bright side, they're in the D-Mac sweepstakes. For their sake, I hope they don't pass on him like they did Reggie...

Yeah, I just don't understand giving up that much for Schauab. The Texans know they aren't going to the playoffs this year and they needed to rebuild.

They seriously targeted Ginn at 10 and they mighta taken him if Miami took Quinn. That's the post draft rumor.

But, I think taking Okoye was smart, he just has so much upside and the Texans needed to gamble on him with that pick.

Wow, when you think about it, they coulda given up a 5th rounder for Trent Green in the 2007 draft and kept all of those picks!
