I'm actually surprised they got that much for him.
Btw, who do you think the Browns target in the draft?Last edited by Castiron; 04-06-2021, 02:58 AM.Flinchy McTapQwik

Zaven Collins seems to be the name everyone is throwing out, and maybe Rousseau since he's falling out of favor. And some think that Jalean Phillip's injury history might push him down far enough for us to get him.

Linebacker is objectively our weakest team position, but we mostly play a base nickel package, so it's importance is a bit reduced. More DL help is probably the biggest target. Malik Jackson and Takk McKinley can only be described as stop-gaps, and getting fresh talent there is probably more important than filling a LB slot.

I'm so spoiled by watching Garrett that when I see mortal men play DE I can get overly critical. I feel like Basham doesn't always explode off the snap as well as he should, and he usually doesn't play as strong as his size would suggest. He has some good inside moves, but needs work on the outside stuff.
But he does also make a good amount of pressures, tfls, and I love his forced fumbles. And he was getting good sack numbers in the limited season Wake had. I don't love the idea of taking him in the first round, but second round, sure.

Malik Jackson was signed to a one year deal, and Jordan Elliott was our 3rd round pick last year, but only started one game, and had 6 tackles the entire year.

In the first round, I think the idea is to grab the best available DL or LB that falls further than expected like happens every year. Hopefully one of JOK, Zaven Collins, Kwity Paye, or maybe even Micah Parsons because of the off field issues that have popped up, or Jalean Phillips if injury concerns scares him down the charts. Rousseau is a possibility as well, though it's hard not to be concerned about one explosive year of production followed by an opt out season. Don't know if he's as real a deal as the numbers suggested. The primary goal should be to help Garrett make pressure on the QB, and secondary goal of finding a playmaking linebacker that we just haven't had since Clay Matthews Jr. The FO has also met with Jaycee Horn and Asante Samuel JR, but I really don't expect them to make a move for another first round corner when the front 7 still needs so much help.
Second round I think will probably just be best defensive player available that isn't the same position as whoever we drafted in the first. We had the benefit of signing two quality DBs in free agency, but more depth in case of Greedy or Delpit not living up to post-injury expectations wouldn't hurt. Takitaki finally took steps forward last year, but LB is still a major position of weakness even though we typically run a nickle base. Last year's 3rd round pick LB Jacob Phillips made minimal impact the entire season. I'm always about more DL depth. Jabril Cox is a possiblity, as our FO seems to love everything LSU, Daviyon Nixon to solidify our DT situation around Billings and Sheldon Richardson who is on the last year of his contract. would be great.
Browns just recently had Azeez Ojulari in Cleveland, so he's another name to watch for.Last edited by Johnnyallstar; 04-10-2021, 04:08 PM.
