  • John Clayton: Rams-Falcons to Swap Picks?

Rams, Falcons thinking about swapping? Glenn Dorsey is the leading candidate to be the No. 2 selection in Saturday's draft, but it might be a team other than the St. Louis Rams.

According to multiple sources, the Rams are open to hearing from the Atlanta Falcons, who draft third. The Falcons have Dorsey near the top of the draft board, and a good portion of the front office would prefer taking Dorsey instead of Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan. The Rams are split on whether to take Dorsey, their highest- rated player, or Virginia defensive end Chris Long, who, according to sources, is their fourth-rated player. A trade, which could net the Rams a third- or a fourth-round choice from the Falcons in addition to swapping places with the Falcons, would allow them to take Long and get extra value.Rams president

John Shaw, who is believed to be interested in the Long possibilities, probably won't make a final decision on a trade scenario until Saturday morning.

I actually presented that idea to another forum before this story broke and think it would be a wise choice by the Rams.

Rams would get a third-rounder out of it most likely and maybe another pick like a 6th

400 TVC point difference, Atlanta would have to give up #48 to do it.

I don't think it is worth it. If a team is looking to trade down and they know who you are trading up for, it means they don't want that player.

At least that's how I see it.

          Agreed.

But that also means that everyone else knows that pick is for sale, so someone else could trade up to take Dorsey.

Why would they give up anything though, Long or Dorsey would help them out immensly anyway, they are going to need as many picks as they can b/c that team's cupboard is bare.

If you are drafting right behind a team looking to swap picks…then I think you call their bluff.
