  • Pat Kirwan praises Tarvaris Jackson on Sirius Radio

Pat Kirwan said that he has been able to spend extended amounts of time with Brad Childress and said that Childress is very excited about Jackson. Kirwan also explained that he challenged Childress about this and about his development and that he defended Jackson fully. He said that Childress told him that the Denver game was not an anomaly and that that kind of performance has been visable in several practices.

Kirwan further noted that he was covering a game in the last half of the season and was astounded by Jackson's abilities in the short game, particularly on the slant route. Kirwan said on the air that Jackson was throwing the slant route better and as effectively as he had ever seen it thrown. The announcer he was discussing Jackson with at the game he was calling was skeptical (not Tim Ryan), and Kirwan told him to "memorize the name Tarvaris Jackson, because you've never seen him play". Pretty high praise coming from a guy like Kirwan. He said that the Vikings should be fairly confident with their QB corp the way it is now.

He and Tim Ryan went on to discuss the match up problems that the Vikings can create if they becom comfortable sending Adrian Peterson out wide and leaving Chester in the Backfield.

I thought Kirwan sounded genuinely surprised and confident that Jackson will be much improved this year, and that the Vikings are a team to be reckoned with.

Jackson had moments of brilliance overshadowed by even more mistakes. He has promise but they are one more very good reciever away from having a breakout offensive season. They can't wait much longer.

That's why I said a very good reciever. I wont deny they are close but Jackson needs to limit mistakes and improve footwork. Then he will be a quality starter.

Kirwan is probably a homer too. Or he was REALLY hard up for something to talk about.

I equate this to sleeping with an ugly fat girl to break a slump, hopefully better things are on the horizon.

Illini, Even if Joe Montana, John Elway, Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, and Brett Farve all went on a radio show at once and all agreed that they like what they see from that kid Jackson in Minnesota. No one would think anthying of it their minds are already made up.

No offense but I would hold the Opinion of a Hall of fame QB on the subject much much much much much much much much much higher than yours or anyone else.

Hmm, maybe if Dick Vermeil, Joe Gibbs, Bill Belichick and the ghost of Vince Lombardi all said so. But that'd be a cold day in hell.

Plus I don't know about Elway's eye for talent, and isn't Marino supposed to be a little, you know, dumb?

Guys, (Vikes28 and IlliniVike) please stop trying to pimp Tarvaris on these boards.

You are not going to convince anyone here that he's any better than a backup quality QB. Most of these guys know football very well, they are not your typical ESPN forums fools who get all of their opinions about football from what someone tells them on SportsCenter. Your stubborn insistance on talking up Tarvaris Jackson is just making Vikings fans in general look stupid. Why? Because nobody without an agenda, or wearing purple and gold blinders, is going to believe that crap. Anyone with even a little football experience and that has watched Jackson play, knows he sucks. It's just that simple. I know the Minnesota media and a few TV pundits with an agenda (like Kirwan and the NFL Network) would have you believe that Jackson is something more than he is... however, I'm asking for you to look at the situation objectively and make up your own minds, instead of buying what those people are selling just because it's what you want to hear. That's much harder to do than it sounds, because it's much easier to go to news sources that tell you what you want to hear, and when you want to believe in something, it's hard to accept viewpoints that clash with your hopes. So please don't take what I'm saying as an attack on you or anything along that line, but rather view it as constructive criticism that's only motive is attempting to help you learn something you might not already know.

Sure, Jackson could become decent, someday, but he's not there yet, and based on his terrible performance last year, he's got a really long way to go. Make no mistake either, I'm pulling for the kid to put it together and make me eat some crow, but I (and everyone else here) knows that isn't likely to happen.

                        $0.02,

PuppyPuncher:"It sure was nice enough of Roger Goodell to let the refs from Ark-Florida officiate the Vikings-Steelers game"
NoNonsenseCoach:"As a Steelers fan living in Pittsburgh I can still admit that tripping penalty was a complete ghost call."
Simonds:"The tripping call was awful, yes, but there were a number of other absurd calls that went against the Vikings, including a DEFENSIVE delay of game penalty against the Vikings only called after a failed attempt to convert a third and 2 by the Steelers. Even the commentators were utterly floored that the refs made that call."
Wraith36444:"A shady tripping call on Minnesota essentially gave the game to the Steelers. The Vikings were the better team, but it is too hard to beat a decent team and the refs. Oh and Harvin is the man."
MaineMan:"I have to agree that it was an awful call and that it changed the outcome. Overall a great game by the Vikes and tragic that the well-deserved victory was stolen away like that."
PaddyPatriot:"I've seen this play and I have to agree, I can't believe they called it tripping"
Johndoe:"You know the officiating is bad when a Steeler's fan, like myself, thinks it was pretty bad."
Steelers_Pens_Fan:"I will admit that the whole "tripping" thing probably shouldn't have been a flag."

InjuredReserve:"Have yet to hear anyone say it was the right call. Seems as if the Vikings were cheated a bit."
Eagles4Life:"Coaches just need to be able to challenge penalties"
EL_Guapo:"The tripping call was bad, the delay of game was stupid Either way, the Vikings showed they are a top team."

Archon095:"Even as a Steeler fan I agree that the call was bull."
BroncosCon:"I'm sorry that was a total bull**** call and it changed the outcome of the game. Pittsburgh still won, but it was almost like Denver winning at Cincy."

Tony Dungy:"The Vikings are just one bad tripping penalty away from being undefeated.
Jon Gruden:"That was just a bad, bad call. It cost the Vikings an important win at Pittsburgh, and it could really hurt them in the post season."

No offense but a vikings fan(you) inferring that bobby wade is an elite offensive weapon and calling the 07 Vikings an elite super bowl contending team minus the QB makes vikings fans look like stupid homers not some one arguing that Tarvaris Jacksons play is normal for a young QB.

You aren't objective at all you are the most biased person on here, Listen to yourself you are trying to make anything goodsaid about Jackson into a conspiracy theory. Further more NFL Network or ESPN or any media would not have anyone believe Jackson is good they rarely say anything good about him they just trash him so that would make you the one listening to the media to get his opinion.

You should seriously take your own advice buddy learn to open your mind Tarvaris Jackson is a young QB he plays bad like any normal young QB. For the record I really wanted Matt Ryan this year and would have been estatic to get him, but we realistically had no chance at him. I would have been very happy to have Brohm as well but there seems to be something we(the draftniks) don't know about him evidenced by his big drop. The only reason I am only "pimping" Jackson is because no one else seems to have the balls to say anything positive about him. Than we have people like you that use every oppurtunity they can get to trash him. Jackson isn't all trash there were good things done by him last year.

Out of the 06 QBs minus Jay Cutler and maybe Matt Leinart, Tarvaris Jackson is now in the best situaion to produce. This is make or break time he is in his third year of the same system the Vikings have made strides in getting him some legit weapons it's time to produce.

How is it narrow minded to hypothetically accept the opinion of a game who played the same position at a hall of fame level over some draftnik? thats just a dumb assumption.

Emmit Smith may not be the most articualte person in the world but if he were to speak about being an NFL RB I garuntee people will listen.
