  • More Draft E-mail Bag: Two More Viking Fans Frustrated that I Hate T-Jack

I don't hate Tarvaris Jackson, I just think he's one of the worst QBs in the league. He's prob. a nice guy. Who knows.

This is getting out of hand Walter, we need the season to start so he can start throwing picks and getting 5 YPA with a 50% completion percentage.

      T-Jack = Tanard Jackson

The better football player deserves the nickname.

Sorry, but T-Jack is just a bad nickname period. To me, it sounds like a breakfast deal at Denny's where I get a steak, hashbrowns, eggs, and all of it is covered in cheese.

        But I'm weird like that.

On topic, Tavaris Jackson could be a decent starter if given two years to learn the ropes. The Vikings cannot wait two years for him to catch up with the rest of the team. If they have any idea as to what they're doing, they'll let JDB step in from day one under orders to only throw when there's 8 guys in the box.

Walt, with all the quarterbacks that have developed late, why give up on Jackson after one year as a starter? The fact is he wasn't horrible, which, for a first-year quarterback in the NFL, is usually fairly encouraging especially when you consider that he did show flashes of great pocket awareness (among other things), which led to some big plays.

I'm on a wait and see approach with Jackson. I don't think he'll ever be great but I certainly think he is capable of being a game manager with some good coaching.

Tavaris has not shown any progression in basic mechanics and technique.

That's why I wouldn't give him a chance. You can't get that down, get out of the NFL.

Most improvements in mechanics and technique are made during the offseason especially training camp. I think it's way too premature to say that Jackson can't improve in those areas. It took Steve Young five years before he showed any brilliance.

Nice comparison: Tavaris Jackson to Steve Young. I can see the resemblance.

Really? Because I thought they were made during games.

Actually Steve Young in his second year doesn't resemble Tarvaris's second year at all. Young was MUCH worse.

Sorry to triple post but I have more info now.

                        Steve Young (1st full season) - 195/363, 2,282 yards, 8 TD, 13 INT, 65.5 QB rating

                        Tarvaris Jackson - 171/294, 1,911 yards, 9 TD, 12 INT 70.8 QB rating

Both QBs were in their second year and had similar (Young was a bit worse) statistics.

Okay so basically, we are supposed to hold off judgement for every QB no matter how bad they look until their 8th season just because of Steve Young's early career stats?

Eighth is a bit much. But I think a QB needs three full seasons starting before you can judge them. Most QBs, like WRs, become elite in their third year. We're judging Tarvaris entirely off one year starting, his second in the league.

Jebus! First you try and compare Jackson to Manning, now Steve Young. What next, Jackson a first-ballot HOFer?
