Never heard that he has had character concerns.

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

I like your Stafford review, but I saw two things you didn't explicitly mention.

On the pro side, I think he has good pocket mobility, similar to a Tony Romo. A lot of his best plays are when protection struggles and he improvises things.

On the con side, he doesn't stop and plant his feet before he throws. When he fires on the move, it hurts his accuracy and his range. His throwing range is still terrific, though.

I thought his mobility was pretty average. When the pocket breaks down I didn't see him get to an open throwing lane when it was there.

I think it's kinda hit or miss. Either he'll make a really good play or he does nothing. A really large portion of his highlight plays are when protection falls apart and he's forced to mobilize.

I think he tends to dance around in the pocket anyway. I remember seeing a lot of times that even when protection is holding up, he'll tend to fire while moving his feet. It's really weird. It's almost like he has no confidence in his line and he's just waiting to scramble. He's not running, he's just bouncing back and forth.

Agreed with this guy, especially as far as mobility...Stafford has had some ridiculous plays where he caught defenses (and the fans for that matter) off-guard with his scrambling abilities - to the point where he's actually had some QB draw plays called for him. The dude isn't gonna run a 4.4 40, and he looks like a fullback as far as his frame, but he's not that sluggish in the pocket, imo.

              Anyways, good writeups otherwise.

Edit - UGA's line had three freshman on it last year...so the no confidence in the line bit might be true, heh.

Georgia had one of the best OLs in the country last season with those 3 freshman

I didn't say "no confidence" I said, how good would he be without that great pass protection & running game (OL + Moreno). I think it makes defenses gear in on the running game more than a normal offense, which makes it really easy on Stafford.

Matt, I'm the one who said no confidence.

Looking at Stafford's play, he either looks scared to get hit, or he's very eager to take off and run. I think he looks jittery in the pocket, like he's ready to bolt at the drop of a hat. Irrational as it could be, I don't think Stafford trusts his line.

A little more bad stuff about Stafford than I previously had. I believe Stafford could be this season's Andre Woodson meaning he could go anywhere between Round 2 and Round 6.

And only one person can feel he has no confidence? D*mn never knew that.

I'm under the impression that Matt thought that McWatt said Matt said it.

And if that wasn't a confusing sentence, I don't know what is.

Nah as long as Stafford doesn't completely screw up next season he'll go in the first round. No one saw Joe Flacco against good competition but he went round one because of his arm. Stafford's arm is just as good. Matt Ryan was HIGHLY overrated and he went round one because of the media. Stafford is just as popular. Plus in the 08 QB class someone has to rise to the top.

Also Stafford's ability to evade the pass rush IS very average, but when he gets going and hits the open field he has good straight line speed. I'd compare his mobility to Jay Cutler's

Woodson didnt completely screw up anytime during his collage career. Woodson had a stellar collage career. In workouts Woodson showed that he had problems with mechanics that caused some of his passes to go completely erratic. That is easily fixed. Yet Woodson still fell. Stafford could be just like that because he isnt as good as Woodson and Woodson fell.
