  • Players that need to be added to positional rankings

This thread is for players for Walter to look at and add to his rankings from people who get to watch their local schools.

    Chris Williams WR - NMSU - 5-8 157

Donnie Avery/Dexter Jackson of 2009, speed and quickness are elite but with a very small frame and from a weak conference. Had an outstanding Sophomore year and started his Junior year well until a shoulder injury ended his season. Can be a huge threat as a return man with the potential to be in the slot, reverses and bubble screens.

    2007 -- 56 rec, 772 yards, 11 TDs in 8 games.
    2006 -- 92 rec, 1425 yards, 12 TDs in 12 games.

So you don't think Donnie Avery should have been drafted?

I think Donnie Avery was a solid prospect and would have been a solid 3rd round pick.

Elite speed, solid size (for a burner) and he had good hands.

        5'8 157 in a gimmick offense.

Wow. 157 pounds? Only way I'd take him is if he runs a 4.1.

Will DeSean Jackson have an NFL career?

Chris Williams will be a late round pick who can make a team as a return man and eventually a receiver.

What did YOU time him at? Fact remains that the kid has a normal height/weight ratio for an average human being, with normal muscle mass. I only work out intermittently and I'm pretty damn sure I have more muscle than him. I'm also two inches shorter.

Fact remains that unless the kid gains 20 pounds, he won't have anything besides some foam and plastic to protect him from tacklers who weigh 100 pounds more than he does.

On topic, here's a few Wildcats to look out for.

                    Rob Gronkowski - TE
                    H: 6'6", W: 255
Gronkowski finished 2007 with about 28 receptions for something around 525 yards. The amazing part? He's a true freshman. I wouldn't be surprised if he's a 1st round pick in 2010, the first year he can declare. As an anecdote, they mentioned once that his dorm room contained three major things. His bed, a TV, and a weight bench. That's it.

                    Devin Ross - CB
                    H: 5'11" W: 170
A relatively thin cornerback, Devin Ross needs to both prove himself on the field and get bigger to warrant anything other than a late round selection. Was primarily a nickelback in 2007, but that's because he was playing behind All-American Antoine Cason and Wilrey Fontenot. Ross will be the #1 CB on an experience-starved Wildcats defense. He could go as high as the third if he has a breakout senior year, but right now, I don't think he'll be in the first five rounds. He was highly recruited out of HS, and if there's one thing that Stoops can do right, it's train defensive backs.

I didn't time him, thats why I am asking. I have seen him take punts to the house as well as slants, bubble screens, and fly routes.

Homer, any other legit prospects we all need to have our eye on coming out of the elite program that is New Mexico State?

I'm looking at him on ESPN. It doesn't make sense, but this kid finds the end zone a lot. Looks like he was sidelined by an injury for about 5 games, but he compiled 56 catches, 772 yards, and 11 touchdowns. That Catch:TD ratio is a bit of an eye raiser.

He looks like a productive receiver against weaker competition in the WAC. He didn't do a whole lot against Boise State. Didn't get to play against Hawaii.

Just Chris Williams and Chase Holbrook for now.
