  • Very interesting stat in ESPN the Mag

I was reading the article on Jake Long and the Miami OL (which I wil get to later), but it said that Vernon Carey gave up 3 sacks last year. That's interesting because everyone pegged LT as a huge need. I thought Carey was below average in pass pro but a great run blocker.

Did we truly miss something here?

Anyways it goes onto say how inept the rest of the Miami OL is and I can't disagree more. Carey will get better at right tackle, Justin Smiley is a newcomer from the 49ers (we will see how it works out) and Samson Satele looks like one of hte best rookie centers in a while (both he and Mangold come to mind).

Anyways I just wanted to start this thread to talk about Carey and if LT was truly that great of a need.

We know there is now no future on their defense in the back 7 if we are being honest...Crowder is inconsistent. Jason Taylor and Joey Porter's best days are behind them. Nothing to speak of in the defensive backfield.

Rush linebacker, from a need standpoint was the greater need. You're call: is this a true or false statement?

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

Where does Ryan Kalil fall in with the rookie centers? He was a second round prospect, after all. He'll be starting after they cut Hartwig.

The Dolphins did acquire Reggie Torbor to play WLB, but he's pretty average. He's probably capable of starting for them, though.

Rush linebacker was a greater need and they could have gotten better value out of it. I'm not even going to bother debating it, because we agree.

Miami had too many needs to fill in one draft. They were fortunate to get what they did. I think they will be good in a few years.

Kalil didn't play center last year, but some guard. He wasnt' impressive from what I saw and have heard.

But again, I want to get on topic and bury the hatchet here because the LT vs. HLB need debate must come up again for Miami, with this new info.

I'm not much of a statiscian, but was Carey really all that bad vs. the pass?

OL was a need but not the biggest need... I'll always say Miami should have went with the rush linebacker they wanted.

I did hear that about Vernon Carey. Pretty bizarre. I don't have much hope for Justin Smiley.

Justin Smiley sucks. He won't solve anything for the Fins. He is beaten a lot on pass plays.

What's his impact on the running game? Considering they have Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Lex Hilliard, and Jalen Parmele, I don't think they will be throwing it a ton.
