  • Eramus James Waived, Claimed, Traded

The Washington Post reports that the Redskins have traded a conditional seventh-round 2009 draft pick to the Vikings for DL Erasmus James.

    I guess he wasn't waived?

"The deal is contingent upon James making Washington's 53-man roster.

The Vikings placed James on waivers last week, but then withdrew him from the waiver wire prior to the deadline for doing so in order to deal him to Washington. Waivers work in reverse order from the 2007 standings, and with the Redskins reaching the playoffs another club could have claimed James before he fell to their spot, hence the trade."

Redskins will still need to draft a Defensive End early in 09.

The Skins didn't really need James though I suspected this might happen for depth purposes. People need to stop parroting the Redskins need a defensive end myth. What they really need is a defensive tackle. They are very solid at defensive end.

EDIT: I just learned that James failed his physical with the Minnesota Vikings and will take one for the Skins tomorrow so he may be waived again by tomorrow.

seems like a pretty good idea to me, you can get a former first-rounder for a 7th round pick if you like what you see or worst case scenario he blows the physical and the skins give up nothing

It's amazing what injuries can do to a prospect.

It will be interesting to see if James can get and stay healthy. He is still very young (Only 7 months older than last years #4 overall selection Gaines Adams). He still has time to build a career.

do we still give up the seventh rounder if he spends the season on IR?
