  • Tampa Bay Defense myth

Marcellus Wiley said something that really pissed me off on ESPN.com recently.

"Tampa Bay's defense isn't drinking from the fountain of youth."

And then I have heard on other forums where people think Tampa is old on defense.

Here are the ages of some of Tampa's starters and reserves on the defense (at start of season):

    Gaines Adams: 25
    Quincy Black (backup LB): 24
    Phillip Buchanon: 28
    Jovan Haye: 26
    Tanard Jackson: 23
    Cato June: 28
    Dre Moore (backup DT): 23
    Greg Peterson (backup DL): 24
    Jermaine Phillips: 29
    Sabby Piscitelli (backup SS): 25
    Barrett Ruud: 25
    Ryan Sims (backup NT): 28
    Aqib Talib: 22
    Greg White: 28
    Eugene Wilson (backup DB): 28

Just saying I really hate how people think Tampa is old on defense. Maybe 2 years ago. Do your m-f'n homework espn. Bunch of idiots.

Normal. Most people don't have a clue what the Bucs are about.

I think when people say defense they actually mean defensive starters. Still, point taken.

They say the same thing about the Bears D.

This is because the media focuses on key players and when stars start to get old they write off the whole D as old. I wouldn't read too much into it.
