  • Third Year WR's

There's a phenomenon noted in Fantasy Football circles of 3rd year WR's having breakout seasons in terms of fantasy numbers as well as their careers in general so this begs the question of who is following in the footsteps of last years Braylon Edwards and Roddy White?

(Obviously this is not a perfect process (See: Reggie Brown, Mark Bradley, etc. and Vincent Jackson, but I think 2008 will be his year).)

This draft class has already seen some talents emerge as legitimate #1 or #2 targets in Brandon Marshall, Santonio Holmes, Greg Jennings and steal of the decade Marques Colston, but here are some of the earlier draft picks and/or guys who see regular time with their respective teams...

    Sinorice Moss
    Devin Hester
    Chad Jackson
    Derek Hagan
    Maurice Stovall
    Demetrius Williams
    Travis Wilson

I'm expecting a lot of Hester and Demetrius Williams love here, but I was just wondering if anyone has any news on any up and coming 3rd year guys for their local teams. Personally as a Giants fan I want to see Moss become the big play burner he was supposed to be, but he will face fierce competition for snaps with new Eli fave Steve Smith, Mario Manningham and of course David Tyree who specializes in making catches with his head while being raped by Rodney Harrison

Travis Wilson is interesting to me because Cleveland management thought he was a good grab out of Oklahoma in the third round. I think he could be a solid slot guy.

Other than that Chad Jackson or Sinorice Moss may do something.

I wouldn't touch Hester in Fantasy. He isn't really a third year WR anyways, it's on his second at the position.

Demetrius Williams will be the #1 by the end of the year. The Ravens are already making him the Z Receiver.

Yeah, he looked really looked poised for a breakout season last year. Steve McNair staring down Derrick Mason and Todd Heap getting injured didn't help.

For what it's worth, Matt, Sinorice Moss is a NY Giant, not a Buffalo Bill.

I can't see him having a breakout season. He's no higher than 4th or 5th on the depth chart. I'm not even sure he makes the team now with Mario Manningham on the roster (Toomer/Burress/Smith/Tyree/Manningham is our likely set of WR's).

Devin Hester could do some damage. Not only are there no other quality WR's, Hester is a good deep threat. He won't threaten 1,000 yards, but I wouldn't be surprised to see 600-800 yards out of him.

Demetrius Williams could do similar work, it all depends on which receiver Joe Flacco learns to trust the most, really.

Hey, speaking of Moss, I was watching Arena ball the other day, and is he in the league? I only had it on for a little bit and I thought the announcer said Sinorice Moss.

Yeah, Hester is only on his 2nd year at the position. He's a good deep threat, but I don't really know how he'll do other than that.

I think you have already seen all the potential stars emerge from this class.
Hester is nothing more than a kick returner.

It was a fairly weak WR class on draft day and it still is today. I mean it was obvious the talent wasn't there when Detroit elected to take a LB over a WR in round 1...

                    Sinorice Moss
                    Devin Hester
                    Chad Jackson
                    Derek Hagan
                    Maurice Stovall
                    Demetrius Williams
                    Travis Wilson

Hmm lets see. Hester is an occasional deep threat and great returner, the rest are well on their way to bust status though.

Moss is terrible. Hands of stone, can't take a hit, crap route runner. Poor returner as well.

Chad Jackson has been injured all last year, but even in his rookie year with Tom Brady I wasn't all that impressed.

                    Hagan is useless.

Maurice Stovall has had serious trouble staying healthy, and I'm not sure he'll ever breakout.

Demetrius Williams has potential, and came into the league as a project, but I can't say I've seen glimpses of dazzling ability from him.

Travis Wilson is probably the worst of that lot and honestly I wouldn't be surprised if hes cut at the end of training camp.

Chad Jackson (if he can avoid getting injured again) and Demetrius Williams should show the most improvement.

Wilson is being said to be working his A-Double Crooked Letter off in Browns camp to prove he is worth keeping after this year. His Impact however with all the other weapons is questionable.
