Guys, I read an intriguing comment by a reader at PFT regarding Ted Thompson. (Packers GM.) I just thought this was pretty interesting stuff so I'd share and see if anyone else had heard anything along this line before.
"People keep forgetting this is Ted Thomspon - the same guy who lied to Jerry Rice and told him Steve Largent wanted him to wear his retired number (Largent is a GOD in Seahawks Stadium - greatest Seattle athlete EVER and a total legend here). Largent said he never said that, and was only asked if Rice could wear his number (who’s going to refuse?). Ted Thompson thought “Rice #80″ jerseys would sell well in Seattle, and even said so in the press. Paul Allen told him not to let the door hit his ass on the way out. Yeah. Try wearing a Rice/80 jersey to the South End Zone and see how many popularity contests you win. People have had the “Rice” badges ripped off their jerseys. That is blasphemy here. They didn’t even sell the jerseys in the stadium, you could only buy them online, because of the public outrage over it.
This Ted Thompson guy is such a douchebag, he would crap on Canton’s entry stairs if he thought he could make a buck. Why did Green Bay think he would treat Favre any differently?
The same team that’s gonna have Favre as a starting QB this season (and where he will retire) is the same team that got Steve Hutchinson due to Thompson’s mismanagement.
And even that evil bastard Ken Behring didn’t unretire Largent’s number. You just don’t do that. Even he knew he’d get barbequed down in Pioneer Square and fed to the drunks. Largent is GOD.
Oh, and another legacy of Ted Thompson’s reign of terror in Seattle: He refused to work with Diamond Parking, who owns the lots around Seahawk Stadium, to negotiate designated tailgating zones (after 30+ years in the neighborhood). Because he refused to work with them, tailgating is banned in Seattle. You’ll see a few in the “team” vans, and they have these lame pseudo-parties now, but tailgating is forbidden (even if you bring red plastic cups). Dude… how does that happen?
This guy is a class-A douche. You didn’t read about it in your east coast papers because nobody really pays attention to the NW. That’s fine, and we really don’t care, because all your bases are belong to us, but still… any questions about Ted Thompson’s management tactics will lead to belly laughter from the Seahawks’ front office… he’s your problem now, Green Bay. And it appears he is doing his job as well as ever.
I’m surprised Florio has not reported on any of these well-known and well-publicized issues regarding Ted Thompson’s destructive reign in Seattle. That guy was the worst thing to happen to Seattle since Ken Behring. He is HATED here. I’ve heard rumors that if you whisper his name near the Stadium, you will be flogged mercilessly with Terrible Towels."
