  • Rutgers related: Can Mike Teel do it on his own?

For the first time in forever, I'm wondering whether or not Rutgers will be able to lean on the run. I've been spoiled by Ray Rice ripping off 200 yard rushing games like nothing and singlehandedly willing other teams to their news, but this year I'm not sure if there's adequate talent to fill the void left by his departure. He really should have stayed another season. Looks like its up to Teel to carry our offense back to the promised land.

Teel has two underrated and excellent targets in Kenny Britt and Tiquan Underwood. Then again, I'm used to seeing Teel randomly throw interceptions or stupid throws or the lot. I just have a feeling that we have to spend less time airing the ball out down field, increase his completion percentage (which is heinous), and have him step it up in the big games. Rutgers always has a buttercup non conference schedule (I'm not saying Fresno State is a BCS buster because they can't even win the WAC over the likes of Hawaii, whose defense can't stop the run for anything *See Washington v. Hawaii, Hawaii v. Georgia, etc*), so Teel always plays perfect there. But for once... I want him to torch Cincinnati. Please don't lose us the game again against Cincinatii! Dear god.

I still remember we were undefeated going there two years ago, and not only did Teel throw four picks, but also Cincy's back-up Qb torched our team. Bad. What is up with Cincy beating down ranked teams? ;-__-

And does anyone see Rutgers reclaiming the Big East? It's pretty hard to see them sweeping West Virginia in the division. They can beat South Florida and Connecticut is also very beatable.

No not at all. I'm still picking South Florida to get it done.

If we get a dominant running back I'm sure we can beat South Florida. Ray Rice singlehandedly owned them. That picture of him stiff-arming Matt McGuire's crown jewel 3-4 rush OLB prospect is priceless. Epic.

Ray Rice is a very good player and I expect him to get Baltimore back to the playoffs. Too bad you don't have a dominant running back.

Speaking of Baltimore do you have any idea how long Willis McGahee will be out for? I was targeting him in my fantasy draft because whoever plays QB will be bailing the ball out to him a lot. I think that's part of Cam Cameron's system or something. Question is, can Gaither run block? He looks the part.

              Who cares?

And no. If anything Underwood would.

Cincy is legit. They have playmakers at WR, lockdown corners, a good rush defense, and a solid OL. Running game is iffy, but in NCAA you dont necessarily need a good runing game..

Why is Selvie Matt's crown jewel 3-4 rush OLB prospect? I seem to remember making him the first pick in my last mock draft and I also remember him being my top DE. What makes you think Matt is the only one who is high on this guy? That's one play in your sig. Selvie's numbers speak for themselves and his athleticism is unmatched in this draft class.

I never said Selvie was bad. I'm just dabbling in a little bit of uninhibited hyperbole. I'm a bit of a Rutger's homer. Naturally I get excited when I see one of my boys pull off a nasty stiff-arm. But yeah the only way Rutger's can beat South Florida is to run the ball. I don't trust Teel airing it out.

I love Rutgers, I have season tickets, and I don't trust Teel. Sometimes he reminds me of a poor man's Eli Manning on Eli's worst day.

Underwood and Britt are incredibly athletic receivers, but we did lose 2 starters on the o-line, the new RB had a knee injury, and .... ah boy... we should find out a lot week 1 versus Fresno State.

If we beat down Fresno State all this foolish talk of them being BCS busters will go down the drain. And I agree that Teel often makes me scratch my head. A lot. Stupid, stupid picks. He's was one heck of a gunslinger last season (how else do you increase your YPA by a whole two yards- wait he got to throw with defenders stacking the box against Ray. Oh. Damn.) and I love watching him sling it deep... I still feel like he relying too much on his ability to air it out rather than his decision making. The kid played at Bosco and didn't lose a game. Having lived in Bergen County and watched Bosco beat down pretty much everyone, I think he needs elite talent around him otherwise he'll struggle. Matt Simms played at Bosco too... he torched defenses the whole year until he played St. Peter's Prep in the state championship (which I went to two years ago), where he got picked off by Will Hill (search his name up, I think he was a top 5 ATH prospect who went to Florida to play safety) and lost Bosco the game. The only reason Bosco won next year was because Will Hill got injured the first quarter.

I just find it difficult for Teel to play consistently against even above average pass defenses.

you're from Bergen county? me too. I went to Bosco and played football there. 1998 Defensive MVP :-). Shared the same locker room w/ Ryan Grant and Dorien Bryant too.

After I graduated college I subbed at Bosco for a couple months and babysitted classes w/ Mike Teel and Mike Toal (current BC linebacker)
