  • Big NFL Draft news

According to Pro Football Talk, teams only have 10 minutes to make picks in the first round of the draft as opposed to 15 minutes in the past, and the first round of the NFL Draft will be held on a Friday night.

This is big for the NFL because they will get bigger endorsements. Should get higher ratings.

I like that the frist round will be much much shorter, and we will have a lot to talk about on Friday night.

I like the shorter time to make picks, but a big fat NO to moving the 1st round to friday night primetime.

Goodell needs to cool it and keep it the same. He is getting a big head.

I like the ten minute intervals too, and I think the Friday night lights will grow on us. It will give us a lot to talk about on Friday night of the draft after the first round is over...trades? moves? updated 2nd round mocks?

I like the 10 minutes a lot better for viewing purposes. The only thing this hurts is trade talks, but I can't see hwo they dont already have most their ideas planend way in advance

Matt I agree with you because fourteen times out of 15 the teams have their players after seven or eight minutes and sit on their hands for the next seven or eight. If they have to talk for fifteen minutes about who they want they must not have been scouting players like they are suppose too during the year. Ten is good.

Mort reported on ESPN today that the Draft will stay on Saturday, and probably have a later start time (I say booo! whats the point of having shorter pick intervals if the draft will start an hour later?)

Here is what the intervals will be in 2008:
                    1st round picks: 10 minutes
                    2nd round picks: 7 minutes
                    3rd-7th round picks: 5 minutes
                    2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

The NFL on Tuesday cut from 15 minutes to 10 the time between picks in the first round of its draft after a 2007 record round of 6 hours and 8 minutes.

Looks like that Saturday will only have 2 rounds, I love this. It will also start at 3 p.m., BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Doing this so it won't be a huge inconvience for our West Coast bretheren.

So if they shorten the first round to 10 minutes per pick and the 2nd round to 7 minutes per pick, then that means the first day will last a maximum of nine hours. Last year, the draft lasted 1/3 of its maximum time, so I am expecthing this draft to last 4.5-5 hours.

Great move by Goddell, although one thing I don't like is how a third round pick isn't considered a "first day pick" anymore. Third rounders are very valuable in my opinion, but I understand why the 3rd round is moved to Sunday.

yes, the third-round "first-day" rhetoric is an interesting issue. Maybe they will change from first day/second day to a three tier system, with high mid low, grouping 3 and 4 together. I think fourth rounders are also valuable, though not quite "first day" valuable.
