  • If New England picks 5th or better in the 2008 Draft...

...via the 2007 draft day trade, do they take Darren McFadden?

It is kinda scary to think about, but it makes perfect sense for them to take the best player available right?

I am having fun with this as I think they are very willing to trade down to get better value for a Malcolm Jenkins or James Laurenaitis.

Kenny Phillips is a possibility, but McFadden gives them much more value for the pick.

Just really scary when you think about that Pats OL, Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Ben Watson, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, and DARREN MCFADDEN!

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

Yeah. Sick. I can see them trading down, but if they get McFadden, it's over. Pats win the Super Bowl until Tom Brady decides to retire.

I mean seriously. If they draft Darren McFadden, it opens up a roster spot because they can cut their punter.

As wonderful as that sounds I need to play devils advicate. Mcfadden would make the Patriots the greatest offensive team in history. HOWEVER, the team has other needs. Their inside linebackers are old, they have their franchise Cornerback wanting to leave. Moss is thirty which they can take care of later but for some reason I wanted to throw that in. But their defense has a couple needs and those should be addressed first. This team has a great TEAM first which makes them unique. If they let that defense slack off the team will not be as special as it currently is. Work on the needs the team has, not what makes positions of strength even stronger by going after someone they dont need.

they can get adequate players for defense later--the draft should be deep enough at corner and lb. If they see McFadden as truly that special, then they will have to go for it.

Just like they got Brady in the 6th round of the 2000 or 2001 draft.

The thing is, Bill Belichick rarely drafts linebackers early. They're so important to his defense that he likes to bring in guys for big money, i.e. Rosevelt Colvin, Adalius Thomas. Belichick said, "I like to know something about my linebackers." The only LB he drafted that I can think of off the top of my head is Tully Banta-Cain in the 7th round.

Willie McGinest? Was he before Belichick was head coach?

It doesn't matter how high of a pick they have. They draft so well they could have only seventh round picks and succeed
