  • Survivor Week 9

Seattle over Tampa won in Week 1.
Chicago over Kansas City won in Week 2.
Pittsburgh over San Francisco won in Week 3.
Dallas over St. Louis won in Week 4.
New England over Cleveland won in Week 5.
Baltimore over St. Louis won in Week 6.
Washington over Arizona won in Week 7.
Tennessee over Oakland won in Week 8.

In case you don't know what this is, you need to pick a team to just win each week. If that team wins, you stay alive. If that team loses, you're out. You can't pick the same team twice.

    These are guidelines I use:

    1. Never pick road teams
    2. Never pick a bad team
    3. Stay away from public plays
    4. Never pick a team that could either be looking ahead or behind
    5. Never pick divisional games

    Getting tougher now...

The 14 home teams in Week 9 are (excluding ones I picked):

    Tampa Bay
    Buffalo
    Detroit
    Kansas City
    New Orleans
    Minnesota
    Atlanta
    NY Jets
    Cleveland
    Oakland
    Philadelphia

Knocking the bad teams off, we have:

    Tampa Bay
    Buffalo
    Detroit
    Kansas City
    New Orleans
    Cleveland
    Philadelphia

    Eliminating divisional games, we have:

    Tampa Bay
    Buffalo
    Detroit
    Kansas City
    New Orleans
    Cleveland

    Tampa Bay playing Arizona, possibility
    Buffalo playing Cincinnati, eliminate
    Detroit playing Denver, eliminate
Kansas City playing Green Bay, eliminate
New Orleans playing Jacksonville w/o David Garrard, maybe
    Cleveland playing Seattle, possibility

    We've narrowed it down to:
    Tampa Bay over Arizona
    New Orleans over Jacksonville
    Cleveland over Seattle

    Three options this week.

    Teams looking ahead:
    Cleveland has Pitt

Case for TB: Coming off back-to-back losses, play Arizona at home.
Case against TB: Tons of $ flowing their way. Lots of injuries. Cardinals keep things close w/ everyone.
Case for NO: Saints are hot. The Jags can't win two straight road games w/ Quinn Gray, can they?
Case against NO: They suck as a home favorite. Jaguars defense is amazing.
Case for CLE: On fire. Seahawks suck on the road.
Case against CLE: They're the Browns! Seattle still dangerous despite road woes.

We've now narrowed it down to:
    Tampa Bay over Arizona
    New Orleans over Jacksonville
    Cleveland over Seattle

    The public is pounding Tampa.

OK, so what do you guys think? What's the strongest team we can choose out of those three?

I'd go with Tampa over Arizona. If Garcia doesn't turn it over Cardinals are an easy W.
      2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

Why are the Cardinals an easy W? The only time they lost by more than 3 was when Kurt Warner left the game vs. the Panthers.

To be brutally honest, I like Arizona to go into Tampa and win.. but seeing as you don't pick road teams, I'd have to go with Cleveland. Although, it is ill-advised to pick against a team coming off a bye.. good luck

Mike Holmgren is 1-8 ATS off the bye with Seattle. Would that make you more confident in the Browns?

I still think you'd be foolish to overlook that.

Cleveland's porous defense has greatly overlooked by their uncanny ability to score at will on offense. Seattle should be able to expose the holes in their secondary and score enough points to tame the Cleveland beast. In my opinion, Cleveland's only chance is in a shootout.

Plus, potentially three wins in a row for Cleveland? What has the NFL come to?

LOL I know, really- Browns three in a row? What's that about?

The Seahawks do suck on the road. So, despite what you said, you'd still take the Browns as the Survivor Pick?

Out of three options you provided, yes, I suppose the Browns are the best choice.

However, I seem to have overlooked one of the games you eliminated: GB @ KC. I have a feeling this game will be very similar to the CIN @ KC game, with KC exploiting its home field advantage to beat an opponent clearly better; KC is also coming off a bye which makes me like them even more. KC is also favored after GB just played impressively on MNF, seem wierd? I think your prediction of larceny by the books holds a lot of truth with this game. Just a thought.
