With no second round pick this year, would you trade a 1st rounder in '09 to get back into the 1st round in the upcoming draft? For me I'd say its worth the risk. Every year since their inception has more or less been a 'rebuilding year' so I really think its time for them to make a go of things and if they neglect to get Matt Schaub some more weapons now, he'll suffer long term, which even though he sucks, was true with David Carr.

I think that is a mistake. I mean look at what happened to the 49ers and then Houston must consider the tough division they are in and that they probably know they will won't finish ahead of the Colts for at least another 2 years...
Their best move would be to trade down to acquire an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick, but if a guy like Jonathan Stewart, Malcolm Kelly, Kenny Phillips, or Malcolm Jenkins is available I think they should definately make a pick and take that great value in a player at a high position of need.
All-in-all I think at the end of the season Houston will be picking in the top 10. But I think when all is said and done, Houston must address their offense since they have no 2nd round pick. They must give Matt Schuab and Andre Johnson some help at one point or another.2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

I am almost always all for trading up because you can always replenish draft picks later. Plus, there's no guarantee you'll like someone a lot the following year.Comment

Just time after time it is better to either trade down or stand pat. Patience is key when managing a football team.2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

Well, it has worked out for other teams. I think if you're smart about it it's OKComment

I'm not being an ******* I just really can't think of any big trades in which it works out for the team giving up their picks. One that just came to mind was Eric Weddle, but San Diego had very few needs and could afford to do so.
I mean I guess this is why Walter you think Tampa had a bad draft because they didn't make a move for Calvin Johnson. Well, Gaines Adams has looked great this year even though it isn't showing up in the box score, and Arron Sears looks like he might be a pro bowler at some point in his career. Tampa needed to fill out their depth chart. And I'm telling you this right now, no way is Tampa 5-4 if they didn't draft Aaron Sears and instead traded for Calvin Johnson. He is providing great run blocking this year and solid in pass pro.
I mean teams that have built a ton of talent on their team have done it by standing pat in the draft, drafting a lot of talented players and being patient.
Look at the 49ers. I mean trading up is just dumb in my opinion. Now they could have been picking in the top 3 and have a small shot at Jake Long, or a great shot at Chris Long or Malcolm Jenkins. It just wasn't a smart move, but the Pats were genius because you try to accumulate more picks (for certain teams, teams like the Patriots or Chargers don't need more picks) and build the talent on your team.Last edited by Matt McGuire; 11-16-2007, 12:41 AM.2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

To adress the topic (I posted this somewhere before too) I think the Texans should trade their number one and maybe a number four pick to the Giants for their one and two. The Giants could grab Kenny Phillips, and the Texans could grab Ray Rice/Steve Slaton and Xavier Abidi to replace Danny Clark.Comment

That may put them in better position, but I don't think the Giants would do thatWalter got PWN3D
