I hope this one is good, don't blow it
Set fanboys on stunned.
CBS announced Monday that it is launching a new "Star Trek" television series in January 2017.
The new continuing mission, however, will be boldly going where none of the previous five live-action TV series went before -- viewable exclusively on the network's fledgling subscription streaming service.
After the premiere airs on network television, successive episodes will only be available on CBS All Access in the United States.
The project isn't exactly moving at warp speed: the network is missing the opportunity to tie its debut to next year's 50th anniversary of the pilot of the original "Star Trek" series created by Gene Roddenberry. It's the first TV iteration for the property since "Star Trek: Enterprise" was phased off the air in 2005, but the franchise's popularity has been rekindled on the big screen in recent years.
At the helm of the new series will be executive producer Alex Kurtzman, who produced and co-wrote the 2009 and 2013 "Star Trek" movies that were directed by J.J. Abrams.
Little is known about the plot, but the network promises the new "Star Trek" series will "introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966."
