The Mavericks. Well that's how it appears. The Nets and Mavericks have reached a trade in principal and are ironing out the final details. Here's how it looks:

    Mavericks get
    J Kidd
    Malik Allen

    Nets get

    Devin Harris
    Jerry Stackhouse
    and expiring contracts of:
    DeSagana Diop
    Devean George
    Maurice Ager

Also the nets get $3M in cash and the Mavs 2008 and 2010 first round draft picks.

I think this was a great trade for New Jersey because Kidd did all he can for them.

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

Stupid trade for the Mavs. They gave up way too much for him.

All that work the front office for Dallas did just went through the ****ter. I don't understand it. Why can't you be happy with winning 50 games every year? It's called profitability. People aren't going to stop coming to games just becasue you don't win a championship.

Look at the Florida Marlins. They have 2 World Series pennants and they bring in like 4000 fans a game. Championships are fun, but from a business perspective it is all about the atmosphere and being a winner in the regular season.

There is no such thing as not supporting a team that doesn't win in the regular season in a profitable market. Fans won't stop cheering for their team if they are averaging 50 wins a year. Period.

One thing I learned after studying this trade....Stackhouse will only be with the Nets for 30 days. The Nets will buy out his contract, and then he will return for the Mavs.

Now, if this is true, then this trade is a bit more balanced.

Yeah but come on...this is Jerry Stackhouse we are talking about. He wasn't going to lead the Nets to the playoffs and he isn't a building block.

Acquiring Harris, George, $3M, Diop and 2008/10 first round picks far outweighs Jason Kidd.

Mark Cuban doesn't care about money though, that guy wants to win a championship.

                Devean George blocks Mavs-Nets trade

                http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3244818

The teams were planning to submit the trade details for league approval when George informed the Mavericks that he wouldn't agree to being included.

Dallas and New Jersey, sources said, haven't abandoned hope of changing George's mind or trying to complete the deal another way after getting so far in the process. But Wednesday's confusing late developments left both clubs in a disconcerting state of limbo.

The Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant is the only player in the league with a specific no-trade clause in his contract, but league rules dictate that it's a right George also possesses because he's on a one-year contract (worth $2.4 million) and because Dallas would have Early Bird rights to re-sign him this summer.

If such a player is traded, Bird rights are not traded with him. So league rules compensate for this by requiring George's consent in any trade.

Why would you want to play for a team that doesn't want you?

I'm thinking more from the Mavs point of view. Stackhouse is their 6th man, and a good scorer. Giving him up made this trade bad, but getting him back makes this more reasonable.

                      D. George is blocking the trade so it hasn't finalized yet. Obvisouly this won't stop Kidd going to the Mavs they'll work out a very similar but new trade. Does anyone remember when the Mavs drafted Kidd and the had the 3 Js? Can you name them?

Jefferson wasn't one, he never even played for Dallas.

It was Jason Kidd, Jamal Mashburn, and Jim Jackson.

Now they have Jason Kidd, Josh Howard, and Jason Terry though lol.

                          The 3 J's continue.
