  • BIG Trade involving Boston, Florida, Pittsburgh

    DISCLAIMER: Not Yet Official

Will Carroll of Baseball Prospectus says the Red Sox, Pirates and Marlins have agreed to a three-team Manny Ramirez deal, pending Ramirez waiving his no-trade clause and league approval.

Carroll, not normally one of our preferred sources, has the Red Sox getting Jason Bay and John Grabow; the Marlins acquiring Ramirez, cash and a prospect from the Red Sox and the Pirates picking up Jeremy Hermida, two prospects from the Marlins and one from Boston.

      More on the trade

Will Carroll believes the Commissioner's Office has been informed of a Red Sox-Pirates-Marlins trade even though the teams haven't agreed on the prospects. Here's how he sees it:

Marlins get Manny Ramirez, one prospect (BOS), and cash (likely Ramirez’s remaining salary)
Pirates get Jeremy Hermida and three prospects (two FLO, one BOS)
Red Sox get Jason Bay and John Grabow

Well Boston has to basically pay his salary for this year still. So the Marlins can afford it.

According to Yahoo, the deal is dead. Florida wanted Boston to pick up too much of Manny's salary, and were still asking for prospects back as well. Bay is now rumored to be on his way to Tampa.
