  • 2007 Fantasy Defenses

Interestingly enough, Arizona and Detroit were two of the most potent defenses in 2007. Talented real life defenses like Philadelphia and Pittsburgh were completely unusable in 2007.

Arizona and Detroit both had two things going for them. Turnovers and Return TD's. Admitted, Arizona got most of those return TD's in a handful of games, but they still net a lot of points for a defense. Detroit also lead the league in fumble recoveries and had a decent number of interceptions. Goes to show that points allowed isn't really a big deal after all.

Tampa is going to be a dominant Fantasy defense in 2009 once Aqib Talib gets some experience.

But yeah I didnt' know about Arizona and they should be slightly better next year defensively.

      Detroit #7????

Minnesota should be the consensus #1 defense with the addition of Jared Allen and more secondary depth with Tyrell Johnson.
      2014-2015 Kentucky Wildcats (38-1)

Congrats to Wisconsin. Even more congrats to UK haters.

Why should Minnesota be the consensus #1 D? They added Allen, Johnson, and Williams. Somehow I don't think Johnson or Williams is going to step right in and fix the 32nd pass D in the NFL but outside of that obvious problem, they have an offense that is led by Tarvaris Jackson. Jackson is pretty good at throwing intreceptions so Minnesota could be defending a short field quite a bit (not good for fantasy points.) I would say the legitimate #1 should be San Diego or Chicago.

Here's the thing. I fully agree with you that Tampa has a great defense. If I was going to have my own NFL team, Tampa is somewhere around the top 3 defenses I'd want to have (New York Giants and San Diego Chargers probably rank a bit higher for me, but meh).

But fantasy defenses turn out to be a bit of a crapshoot, since tons of points are from Defensive TD's. Who the hell can accurately predict those?
