  • My Fantasy Mock Draft

    1. Team siska - RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota
    2. Team capretta - RB LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego
    3. Team Sweetin - RB Brian Westbrook, Philadelphia
    4. Team Montero - QB Tom Brady, New England
    5. Team Wampler - RB Joseph Addai, Indianapolis
    6. Team James - RB Steven Jackson, St. Louis
    7. Team Gustafson - RB Marion Barber, Dallas
    8. Team Gustafson - RB Marshawn Lynch, Buffalo
    9. Team Smith - RB Frank Gore, San Francisco
    10. Team Anonymous - WR Randy Moss, New England
    11. Team williams - QB Peyton Manning, Indianapolis
    12. Team gaudette - RB Clinton Portis, Washington

I was satisfied to gain my third ranked player fourth overall and solidified my quarterback position. The main things that surprised me were Peterson being chosen first, Barber and Lynch being chosen as high as they went, and Moss falling to 10 but no major surprises until round 2.

    13. Team gaudette - RB Larry Johnson, Kansas City
    14. Team williams - WR Terrell Owens, Dallas
    15. Team Anonymous - RB Willis McGahee, Baltimore
    16. Team Smith - RB Jamal Lewis, Cleveland
    17. Team Gustafson - WR Reggie Wayne, Indianapolis
    18. Team Gustafson - RB Ryan Grant, Green Bay
    19. Team James - WR Braylon Edwards, Cleveland
    20. Team Wampler - WR Andre Johnson, Houston
    21. Team Montero - WR Larry Fitzgerald, Arizona
    22. Team Sweetin - RB Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville
    23. Team capretta - QB Drew Brees, New Orleans
    24. Team siska - QB Tony Romo, Dallas

I was very upset when Andre Johnson came off the board one measly pick before mine but I was nonetheless satisfied with landing Fitzgerald. There were still plenty of quality running backs left so I pulled a fantasy football no-no and didn't take a running back in the first two rounds. Keep reading to see how that worked out.

On another note, I can't believe gaudette picked Larry Johnson 13th overall. That may have been the worse pick of this entire draft.

    25. Team siska - RB Michael Turner, Atlanta
    26. Team capretta - WR Marques Colston, New Orleans
    27. Team Sweetin - RB Brandon Jacobs, NY Giants
    28. Team Montero - RB Ronnie Brown, Miami
    29. Team Wampler - RB Willie Parker, Pittsburgh
    30. Team James - RB Reggie Bush, New Orleans
    31. Team Gustafson - WR Plaxico Burress, NY Giants
    32. Team Gustafson - WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Cincinnati
    33. Team Smith - WR Steve Smith, Carolina
    34. Team Anonymous - RB Laurence Maroney, New England
    35. Team williams - RB Earnest Graham, Tampa Bay
    36. Team gaudette - QB Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh

The rush on running backs is in full swing now but there are a couple starting running backs that I like left including Jonathan Stewart. I decide to target Chad Johnson, who unbelievably still hasn't been picked yet and pray he falls to me. I strongly believe Stewart will continue to fall but even if he doesn't there are plenty of quality backs left on the board. I am also now in shock that Big Ben, Tony Romo, and Drew Brees were all picked ahead of Carson Palmer.

    37. Team gaudette - WR Torry Holt, St. Louis
    38. Team williams - RB Rudi Johnson, Cincinnati
    39. Team Anonymous - QB Carson Palmer, Cincinnati
    40. Team Smith - QB Matt Hasselbeck, Seattle
    41. Team Gustafson - RB Darren McFadden, Oakland
    42. Team Gustafson - WR Greg Jennings, Green Bay
    43. Team James - WR Wes Welker, New England
    44. Team Wampler - WR Chad Johnson, Cincinnati
    45. Team Montero - WR Brandon Marshall, Denver
    46. Team Sweetin - TE Antonio Gates, San Diego
    47. Team capretta - TE Kellen Winslow Jr., Cleveland
    48. Team siska - TE Jason Witten, Dallas

I was very happy with this round. **** Wampler for taking Johnson one spot ahead of me but I still came away with a very good value at wide receiver in a round where Rudi Johnson and Darren McFadden were the only two running backs taken. Brandon Marshall and Larry Fitzgerald give me two very solid number 1 fantasy wideouts but I still have that hole to fill at running back and tight ends are starting to go off the board.

    49. Team siska - RB Selvin Young, Denver
    50. Team capretta - RB Fred Taylor, Jacksonville
    51. Team Sweetin - WR Roy Williams, Detroit
    52. Team Montero - RB Jonathan Stewart, Carolina
    53. Team Wampler - QB Derek Anderson, Cleveland
    54. Team James - QB Jay Cutler, Denver
    55. Team Gustafson - QB Donovan McNabb, Philadelphia
    56. Team Gustafson - RB Edgerrin James, Arizona
    57. Team Smith - RB Thomas Jones, NY Jets
    58. Team Anonymous - WR Santonio Holmes, Pittsburgh
    59. Team williams - TE Tony Gonzalez, Kansas City
    60. Team gaudette - WR Anquan Boldin, Arizona

After Selvin Young got nabbed off the board, I was running out of good RB #2 options so I snatched up Jonathan Stewart nice and fast. Only one more tight end came off the board so I considered Chris Cooley, Hines Ward, and Todd Heap to all be solid targets.

    61. Team gaudette - RB LenDale White, Tennessee
    62. Team williams - RB DeAngelo Williams, Carolina
    63. Team Anonymous - TE Dallas Clark, Indianapolis
    64. Team Smith - RB Matt Forte, Chicago
    65. Team Gustafson - WR Roddy White, Atlanta
    66. Team Gustafson - TE Chris Cooley, Washington
    67. Team James - RB Kevin Smith, Detroit
    68. Team Wampler - WR Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City
    69. Team Montero - WR Hines Ward, Pittsburgh
    70. Team Sweetin - RB Julius Jones, Seattle
    71. Team capretta - WR Calvin Johnson, Detroit
    72. Team siska - WR Chris Chambers, San Diego

Well I got the second of my two targets and one is still on the board. I have no idea why Roddy White went this high or DeAngelo Williams for that matter but they are only hurting themselves. So far, I feel very good about the talent that seems to be slipping to me.

    73. Team siska - D/ST Chargers, San Diego
    74. Team capretta - WR Marvin Harrison, Indianapolis
    75. Team Sweetin - WR Lee Evans, Buffalo
    76. Team Montero - TE Todd Heap, Baltimore
    77. Team Wampler - RB Felix Jones, Dallas
    78. Team James - TE Tony Scheffler, Denver
    79. Team Gustafson - RB Justin Fargas, Oakland
    80. Team Gustafson - QB Eli Manning, NY Giants
    81. Team Smith - WR Donald Driver, Green Bay
    82. Team Anonymous - WR Santana Moss, Washington
    83. Team williams - QB Marc Bulger, St. Louis
    84. Team gaudette - TE Heath Miller, Pittsburgh

In this round, I landed a target for my last round and noticed some good talent left. I have no idea why Wambler took Felix Jones there. When I asked, he said it was because Jones will share carries with Barber. When I pointed out that Jones would be very lucky to get one third of the carries, he said, "You do your draft and I'll do mine." So I did.

    85. Team gaudette - WR Joey Galloway, Tampa Bay
    86. Team williams - WR Bryant Johnson, San Francisco
    87. Team Anonymous - WR Laveranues Coles, NY Jets
    88. Team Smith - RB Chester Taylor, Minnesota
    89. Team Gustafson - TE Donald Lee, Green Bay
    90. Team Gustafson - QB Matt Schaub, Houston
    91. Team James - WR Bobby Engram, Seattle
    92. Team Wampler - RB Deuce McAllister, New Orleans
    93. Team Montero - WR Jerricho Cotchery, NY Jets
    94. Team Sweetin - WR Kevin Curtis, Philadelphia
    95. Team capretta - WR Bernard Berrian, Minnesota
    96. Team siska - WR Anthony Gonzalez, Indianapolis

I couldn't believe Cotchery stayed on the board this long. I had him on my fantasy team last year and based on his production then he was an absolute steal here. I also can't believe how many people passed on him for an inferior receiver. So even though I still needed a D/ST and was planning on taking one this round I ended up with Cotchery. No complaints there at all. I can't believe that David Garrard and Aaron Rodgers are both still on the board.

    97. Team siska - WR D.J. Hackett, Carolina
    98. Team capretta - RB Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh
    99. Team Sweetin - TE Vernon Davis, San Francisco
    100. Team Montero - QB David Garrard, Jacksonville
    101. Team Wampler - TE Benjamin Watson, New England
    102. Team James - QB Phillip Rivers, San Diego
    103. Team Gustafson - WR Javon Walker, Oakland
    104. Team Gustafson - RB Ahmad Bradshaw, NY Giants
    105. Team Smith - RB Shaun Alexander, Free Agent
    106. Team Anonymous - QB Jake Delhomme, Carolina
    107. Team williams - RB Tatum Bell, Detroit
    108. Team gaudette - TE Alge Crumpler, Tennessee

I feel that I easily made the best pick of this round with Garrard. I still need a D/ST but none have been taken in this round so I'm feeling better and better about passing up a DST for Garrard. I now have a great backup to Brady.

    109. Team gaudette - D/ST Seahawks, Seattle
    110. Team williams - D/ST Bears, Chicago
    111. Team Anonymous - D/ST Giants, NY Giants
    112. Team Smith - RB Ahman Green, Houston
    113. Team Gustafson - RB Chris Brown, Houston
    114. Team Gustafson - WR Donte Stallworth, Cleveland
    115. Team James - WR Derrick Mason, Baltimore
    116. Team Wampler - WR Patrick Crayton, Dallas
    117. Team Montero - D/ST Packers, Green Bay
    118. Team Sweetin, WR Reggie Brown, Philadelphia
    119. Team capretta - D/ST Vikings, Minnesota
    120. Team siska - RB Ricky Williams, Miami

I landed the defense I had decided to target when I passed up the Bears in favor of Garrard last round. The rush on D/STs had begun and I got a prime D/ST.

    121. Team siska - RB Kenny Watson, Cincinnati
    122. Team capretta - QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay
    123. Team Sweetin - RB Jerious Norwood, Atlanta
    124. Team Montero - RB Chris Johnson, Tennessee
    125. Team Wampler - D/ST Colts, Indianapolis
    126. Team James - D/ST Cowboys, Dallas
    127. Team Gustafson - RB Sammy Morris, New England
    128. Team Gustafson - D/ST Steelers, Pittsburgh
    129. Team Smith - TE Jeremy Shockey, NY Giants
    130. Team Anonymous - QB Jason Campbell, Washington
    131. Team williams - WR Isaac Bruce, San Francisco
    132. Team gaudette - QB Jon Kitna, Detroit

I wasn't too happy with being stuck with Chris Johnson here but he was the best running back left and may see quite a few carries. However, two rookie running backs is a no-no and so I knew I would have to pick at least one more running back to be safe.

    133. Team gaudette - WR Reggie Williams, Jacksonville
    134. Team williams - RB Kevin Jones, Chicago
    135. Team Anonymous - QB Kurt Warner, Arizona
    136. Team Smith - TE Owen Daniels, Houston
    137. Team Gustafson - RB Chris Henry, Tennessee
    138. Team Gustafson - QB Alex Smith, San Francisco
    139. Team James - WR Vincent Jackson, San Diego
    140. Team Wampler - WR Nate Burleson, Seattle
    141. Team Montero - TE Greg Olson, Chicago
    142. Team Sweetin - RB Leon Washington, NY Jets
    143. Team capretta - K Nick Folk, Dallas
    144. Team siska - QB Matt Leinart, Arizona

Never thought I would see both Arizona QBs be drafted in the same round but here it is. James got a steal that I was ready to get but he was two picks in front of me. I'm satisfied though not thrilled with Olson as a No. 2 TE.

    145. Team siska - D/ST Patriots, New England
    146. Team capretta - RB DeShaun Foster, San Francisco
    147. Team Sweetin - WR Jerry Porter, Jacksonville
    148. Team Montero - RB Pierre Thomas, New Orleans
    149. Team Wampler - RB Brandon Jackson, Green Bay
    150. Team James - WR Amani Toomer, NY Giants
    151. Team Gustafson - WR Sidney Rice, Minnesota
    152. Team Gustafson - WR Ronald Curry, Oakland
    153. Team Smith - QB Jeff Garcia, Tampa Bay
    154. Team Anonymous - TE Ben Utecht, Cincinnati
    155. Team williams - WR Drew Bennett, St. Louis
    156. Team gaudette - QB Vince Young, Tennessee

This round really stuck out to me as a round where a lot of late round steals could have happened. The only players here who I don't think could end up being steals are Amani Toomer, Jeff Garcia, and Drew Bennett. The rest could all be great value where they were chosen.

    157. Team gaudette - WR Jabar Gaffney, New England
    158. Team williams - D/ST Ravens, Baltimore
    159. Team Anonymous - WR Antwaan Randle El, Washington
    160. Team Smith - QB JaMarcus Russell, Oakland
    161. Team Gustafson - QB Matt Ryan, Atlanta
    162. Team Gustafson - RB Ladell Betts, Washington
    163. Team James - RB Derrick Ward, NY Giants
    164. Team Wampler - RB Kolby Smith, Kansas City
    165. Team Montero - K Robbie Gould, Chicago
    166. Team Sweetin - D/ST Eagles, Philadelphia
    167. Team capretta - RB T.J. Duckett, Seattle
    168. Team siska - RB Ryan Torain, Denver

I landed my top kicker which made me quite happy and everyone else seemed to waste their pick with the exception of Team williams who got great value with the Ravens D here.

    169. Team siska - RB Michael Pittman, Denver
    170. Team capretta - WR Devin Hester, Chicago
    171. Team Sweetin - QB Trent Edwards, Buffalo
    172. Team Montero - D/ST Buccaneers, Tampa Bay
    173. Team Wampler - K Stephen Gostkowski, New England
    174. Team James - WR Arnaz Battle, San Francisco
    175. Team Gustafson - K Shayne Graham, Cincinnati
    176. Team Gustafson - RB Maurice Morris, Seattle
    177. Team Smith - K Nate Kaeding, San Diego
    178. Team Anonymous - WR Ted Ginn Jr., Miami
    179. Team williams - TE Randy McMichael, St. Louis
    180. Team gaudette - WR Roydell Williams, Tennessee

I was once again satisfied with the Bucs falling to round 15. This gives me two solid defenses to swap around as I choose. I am in awe of Mason Crosby still being on the board at this point.

    181. Team gaudette - K Mason Crosby, Green Bay
    182. Team williams - K Adam Vinatieri, Indianapolis
    183. Team Anonymous - K Phil Dawson, Cleveland
    184. Team Smith - D/ST Cardinals, Arizona
    185. Team Gustafson - K Rob Bironas, Tennessee
    186. Team Gustafson - D/ST Jaguars, Jacksonville
    187. Team James - K Josh Brown, St. Louis
    188. Team Wampler - WR James Jones, Green Bay
    189. Team Montero - WR Chad Jackson, New England
    190. Team Sweetin - K Jeff Reed, Pittsburgh
    191. Team capretta - RB Jason Wright, Cleveland
    192. Team siska - K Matt Stover, Baltimore

I can't believe the Jaguars D/ST fell this far but what a pick for Gustafson. I am satisfied with Chad Jackson here. He will be my fifth wide receiver and he could be the third in Tom Brady's offense.

I don't like the looks of this squad at all. You could have probably gotten Fitzgerald in the next round. I recently did one and here was my squad:

    Jay Cutler
    Marshawn Lynch
    Willis McGahee
    Calvin Johnson
    Marques Colston
    Larry Fitzgerald
    Todd Heap/Chris Cooley
    Nick Folk
    Dallas/ Tampa Bay D/ST

That would be a pretty awesome team.

Brady over Addai? Fitz over MJD? I dont much like this team you picked.

I have Brady ranked third below Peterson and Tomlinson because there is a huge dropoff in consistency. And obviously I'll take Fitz over a backup running back no matter how good he is.

How is Adrian Peterson more consistent than Brian Westbrook? He was a no-show late in the year when it mattered most

I have injury concerns with Westbrook. Needless to say, I also have them with Peterson but Peterson's upside gives him the edge at #2.

Westbrook has just as much upside because:

              1) Better QB play
              2) Will catch more balls
              3) Less of an injury risk

If I had #2, I would take AD and probably try and deal him.

I just did another one and without posting the whole thing, this is my team. Number in parentheses is the round they were chosen in. I had the tenth overall pick.

                    QB - Carson Palmer (3)
                    RB - Ryan Grant (2)
                    RB - Jonathan Stewart (6)
                    RB/WR - Roy Williams (5)
                    WR - Randy Moss (1)
                    WR - Plaxico Burress (4)
                    TE - Todd Heap (7)
                    DST - Bears DST (10)
                    K - Robbie Gould (15)
                    ------------------------
                    QB David Garrard (8)
                    RB Ahman Green (9)
                    RB T.J. Duckett (14)
                    WR Jerry Porter (11)
                    WR Vincent Jackson (12)
                    TE Zach Miller (16)
                    D/ST Patriots (13)

That's a great starting lineup, but I think the bench is terrible.

The second team is a little better, but the lack of RB respect will kill you this year.

You say Brady is more consistent? He had one huge year. Addai and MJD would have been a dynamite starting tandem of RB's instead you were stuck with R.Brown and J.Stewart. Are you kidding me? A RB coming off an ACL injury on a terrible team and a rookie or a guy in a big time offense and a RB who gets all the goal line carries in a run happy offense. I can't wait to draft against you in the WFLEAGUE2.

This is the issue I have with a guy like MJD. Now instead of worrying about just my player getting injured I have to worry about Fred Taylor and MJD getting injured because if Taylor gets injured it'll be just like when Deuce got injured in NO. Like Reggie Bush, MJD's numbers will suffer because he can't carry the load by himself. I'd just rather have Fitz so I only have to worry about what happens to Fitz unless Warner and Leinart both go down.

And Brady consistently has good years. Last year may have been well better than his average but he still has great average years.

EDIT: Lack of running back respect? I'm perfectly happy with all of my running back lineups considering that there should be plenty of free agent additions I can make if my guys don't pan out. What do Justin Fargas, Ryan Grant, and Ahmad Bradshaw all have in common? None were drafted in your average fantasy league last season.

Who's to say MJD can't carry the full load? Westbrook can and the two have very similar body types and playing styles. I am willing to bet he would be able to carry the load. I think the upside is higher with the MJD pick.
